    Hi,

I am seeking some help about taking care of my shiny new iPad 2, and am really thankful to TA and the members here for taking time and responding.

I have one more final question:

Is screen guard really necessary. I do have one on my iPod touch, but the touch is subjected to quite a bit of brutality, considering it shares space in my pocket with my cell phone, and on careless days, keys, receipts, etc. But iPad will mostly remain at home, in a sleeve and come out only during the longer gaming sessions or when i want to paint. So there shouldn't be a need for a screen guard. That said, the screen does get a tad smudgy with all the, well, touching. What is the opinion of people here?

Since it is a shiny, new and expensive gadget, buying a miniscule screen protector seems like a no-brainer. No matter how tough, reinforced or scratch-proof the display is, might as well be safer. Insurance is always good, especially since it doesn't cost much... no?

    Think about it.. ;)

I had my iPad 1 for about 2 months before I got a screen protector. I was very worried that I would scratch it every time I used it. I got the ZAGG InvisibleShield and it's a great product. Definitely recommended! I'll get one for my iPad 2 as soon as I get it.

You can get the ZAGG installed at Best Buy for $10-$15. It's well worth letting them do it because if they screw it up or get a hair underneath it, then they will replace it for free. If you try doing it yourself and you mess it up, then you're out the money for the screen and you'll need to get another, or live with the imperfections.

Then yes. In my experience, they help in almost everyway. I would suggest willing the screen down with a good screen cloth first.

It took me two attempts with guards to get one on perfect on my ipod I'd hate to try and do it on an Ipad. I'd say the only real trick to it is to do it somewhere with absolutely no dust at all.

Probably worth paying for it done professionally but it isn't that hard once you have had a few practises unfortunately they cost money.

If their available I'd say put one on a scratch will cost you more in the long run and gives you a small piece of mind.

I'd usually say no, my sister and I share a 1st gen iPad and it's been completely fine the past 6+ months... but if you've got a guard anyway then why take the risk?

I like Zagg as well and used it on both of my IPads. I installed both myself but I honestly would just pay Best Buy to do. The screen protector really works well and if you are worried about scratches, this will take care of it.

I didn't get one for my iPad 2, but it depends on how you use the device.

If you plan on lugging it around in your bag, where it shares the space with keys and other stuff, then yes, you want a screen protector. If you plan on taking it out a lot where it will sit in weird places, then yes, you want a screen protector. If you think you're on the clumsy side and will drop it face down as soon as you take it out of the box, then yes, you want a screen protector. If children and young teens will use it, and you think they may throw up all over it frequently, then yes, you want a screen protector.

If you use it mostly at home, and somewhat sensibly, and you vaguely remember where the sink for hand washing is, then it's perfectly fine without a screen protector. The glass doesn't scratch easily at all, and it is meant to be used without a screen protector. Note that Apple actually removed theirs from their store.

This may sound a tad odd, but it's precisely because I paid 600 Euro for the iPad 2 that I don't want to ruin the experience with a screen protector. It's meant to be used, and it feels great when it's "naked". I used to be rather obsessed with the risk of scratches/etc. on previous devices, but found that they always impact on the experience. It's perfectly subjective, though, and I of course did get a SmartCover, too.

(Besides, I'll probably buy the iPad 3 next year anyway, and the the iPad 4 in 2013, and so on ... they don't get a chance to get damaged or scratched with such short cycles anyway. :p There, finally an advantage to the annually generations!)

Definitely get it as no matter how scratch resistant the screen may be, its still not scratch proof. iDevices are built to last But there will always be a new model every year (along with countless android/other OS choices) and you'll most probably be tempted to upgrade in a couple of years. A scratchless iPad will prove extremely useful when you sell off or hand it down to someone else.

Other than that, there isnt really any reason to use a screen guard. I've been using mine without one and even though the few minor scratches are easily ignorable, I still wish I had used a screen guard so it doesnt look bad when I hand it down to the kids next year.

Oh well, the scratch guard that came "Free" with the Amzer case was just bad quality. It didnt stick to the iPad at all. So I thought of buying one and the stores I visited here are selling it for more than what a smart cover costs! 75$ to be exact! It's supposed to be anti-glare and bubble proof and a few other things, but 75$ is a lot

PS: I am not from US btw.

I tend to agree. The screen's a finger print magnet, but nothing that a good scrub with a soft cloth wont correct. And as you mention, I intend to use it exclusively at home, And I have a sleeve in which I keep the iPAD very religiously when i am not using it. So there's not a lot of chance to scratch the screen.

But as someone said on this thread... it's about that peace of mind... It's probably all for that.

I've owned every iOS device since the original iPhone, used them all without a screen protector and case, and they all look fine. You're really killing the experience of using a device as sleek as an iPad 2 by wrapping it in a weird plastic coating that drastically alters how the screen feels.
