I don't mind this kind of IAP (basically turning a lite to a full version). It's just the nickel-and-dime IAPs that I hate. I'm going for it. And it think it's going to be the future of the app store...no more lites, just freemiums with unlocks via IAP or IAP levels/consumables (prefer the former).
I was under the impression, having read it somewhere I can't pinpoint just now, that in some cases, such as this here, IAPs are managed by a developer's own 3rd party server, instead of Apple. Therefore, if anything happened to Wayforward, it could spell trouble for us users. Not a biggie, I agree, but still a point of slight irritation if true.
Thanks, metal! I have completely overseen this info. Will buy it for sure. Even if I HATE IAPs. At least they are describing the IAP very good and elusive in their app description. Exemplary. But I am with foxy: Better would be another pricing model with Lite and Full. Because we (almost) all hate IAPs. They have bad reputation, responsible are devs who implemented them badly. Apple should shut down IAPs and DLC. Why not make use of paid updates? Ever had a paid update of an iOS app?! How often did you read the redundant information "free update" in iTunes?
Because we devs can't get Lite versions approved anymore... Apple want's IAP or nothing. Lite versions just don't go through anymore (for small devs at least)
this is the worst news I have received today...okay, if the things goes in this way, I will sell the 4s to one of my friends with a big discount on the price and I will purchase the alternative: Samsung!
If you build it, they will come. I wonder how much of this is due to the sheer volume of what the app store has become. Even though storage is cheap, servers are not, and bandwidth is not as well. Having single products will cut back on their volume considerably I would imagine... But, I am with foxmulderino on this - I hate IAP, and would much rather purchase the "full" game, in large part because a lot of apps don't have a "restore" and then you are wondering if you purchased the IAP, because if you didn't before, you did just now... that sucks...
And here I was thinking that the 16-bit... um, character animations were one of the best parts of the game! But if you want to be rational: 1) It's hot out. 2) She's a half genie, she can probably wear anything she wants. 3) Even the PG-rated Disney Genie doesn't wear any clothes most of the time. Kermit: "He gets up and puts his pants on in the morning, just like I do." Fozzie: "But you aren't wearing any pants!" Kermit: "Let's see him get away with that on television!"
I was thinking that the freemium / IAP to unlock the full game wasn't that bad (really hate level/consumable IAPs). But I do get concerned about IAP unlocks not being recognized if downloaded again in the future. If Apple really does want to do away with lites, they better be damn sure that they're IAP system is squeaky clean with no issues if an app is re-downloaded. I frequently delete and redownload apps because of lack of space.
Like I said, it's been three and a half years since the AppStore opened, and this has never happened before for a game that unlocks content with iAP. Stop worrying about "what ifs."
When has Apple let any dev do this? They wouldn't even allow Amazon to do Kindle purchases within their app. Amazon has to send you to their website in Safari so it's crystal clear that you're paying them, not Apple, for the books you download. This is the second thread on this game that I've seen derailed by this silly "The dev controls the IAP!" rumour. Cheers.
According to Apple's support page on IAPs, limitations apply strictly to "replenishable In-App Purchases and subscriptions". This relieves any fear I previously had.
Brilliant game, perhaps my very favorite iOS platformer. This, Pac-Man CE, Tactical Soldier and the Hector games are the best Thanksgiving deals so far in my opinion.
The price has dropped, but the item is still 'being modified' where I'm at. Has anyone managed to get it yet ? Z.
Grabbed this as well. I almost bought a DSi for this a while back...now I got it for .99 on my lovely Ipod Touch! Thanks Wayforward!
Incredible deal. Can you believe this same title goes for $12 on the DSi? Plus you'd have to deal with Nintendo's points system, which can strictly be purchased by shares of ten dollars.
