Its all about user base my friend. More people carry phones than portable gaming devices. People also thought the PSP would kill the DS, and look what happened there. iPhone is already in millions of pockets........is there room for another device in there? iPhone appeals to all age groups and all kinds of people, from business to pleasure, and all aspects of anything digital, from games to movies to music to navigation to web, etc. NGP will be appealing to the hardcore gamer........hmmmmmmmmmmm I wonder which one will be more successful...............
Most people just bought the iPhone 4. So why would that need the 5 unless it is for gaming? Everything you need for a phone is already in the iPhone 4. So us that play games will buy the NGP for gaming even if we have a phone. So, my point is that a phone could never beat a beefed up portable system like the NGP.
Plus, if I run my battery down gaming on my phone, I can't take any calls or messages unless I am tethered to an AC outlet. I'd rather run the battery down on my psp or iPad or something else. Then I can run out somewhere without worrying that my 2 hours of hardcore gaming has left me with not much talktime.
Sure every one will admit that NGP is better than the iPhone specs wise, but wouldn't carry that around its about 7 inches wide & because it is basically a mini console why would you buy this if you already have a console except to brag you have a better portable device than anyone else. I'm pretty sure this will cost like $300 - 350 but console's are cheaper than that now & the games are probably like $40 each & consoles cost about $20 more. I'm sure iPhone 5 won't have better specs than this because Apple try to be the best & right now the most powerful phone that is coming this year spec wise is the Motorola Atrix 4g with Tegra 2 3D dual core processors in Q1 but I'm sure iPhone 5 will be better than this when it comes out. I hear that next year that Nvidia is going to have quad core phones which means that there will be more quad core phones next year so the NGP isn't gonna be that good then,
But do you have a console? if yes why would you want something that is called portable that won't fit in your pocket except if you carry a bag every where you go.
Guys specs aren't the only issue here. Even if the iPhone 6 gets a quad core CPU and GPU and a ton of developer supprt and $30 games, gaames still won't look as good. Why? The NGP's OS is designed for gaming, and gives developers low level access to the GPU in the device. In any smartphone, developers have to code through the inefficient OpenGL stack provided to the developer by the OEM. Why is this bad? Going through a pre-assigned stack is bad for performance. The PowerVR SGX 535 in current iDevices is advertised to push 28 million polygons/second. In benchmarks and tests, iDevices can barely pull off half that figure. With low level access, it is much easier to take full advantage of the available hardware. And low-level access will never come to the iPhone, simply due to the way iOS and Android are designed. The SGX 543MP4+ can do 133 million polygons/second, and due to low level access given to the developer, it can probably pull of that number as well. Also stop comparing the two devices. The iDevices and portable multimiedia and web devices and happen to be nice casual gaming devices as well. The NGP is a dedicated gaming device. Games will cost a lot more, have a lot more depth, significantly better graphics, and more developer support. As long as the App Store $10 pricing barrier is there, then games on the iPhone won't even be half as good as NGP counterparts. Now of course the iPhone will sell more. that's not what Sony is going for here. Both devices are targeted at different markets. The iPhone is for people looking for an all-in-one device, and there are many more people looking for that over people looking for a dedicated gaming console that gives PS3 quality graphics. This is what uncharted for NGP looks like: In a gamers perspective, would you rather take this amazing looking Uncharted game, or Shadow Guardian, a knock-ff Uncharted game with 1/10th of the graphical quality. In conclusion, don't compare them. They are different devices targeted at different people. iDevices will always be all-in-one devices, while the NGP will have far better games. It's personal perspective. If you don't care about game/quality and depth, and something like Shadow Guardian will suffice for your entertainment and eye-candy needs (you want a multimedia device as a part of it). Please buy an iPhone. But if you want a deep, immersive, graphically impressive gaming experience, buy an NGP.
Go to http://psp.ign.com/articles/114/1146567p1.html and look at the size of NGP compared to other devices.
Who cares? Look at how much better it is too. Way more battery life, 10X the graphics power compared to current gen devices, 5X the CPU power, bigger screen. Tell me would you rather play Uncharted with similar graphic quality as the PS3 version on a 5 inch screen or Shadow Guardian on a 3.5 inch screen (Not taking in to account any other features of the devices). For god's sake why do you care about the pocket? Get a case and carry it around in your hand.
Except I can't play Uncharted or other $30-50 console (not console-like) games during a 2 hour layover at the airport. Meanwhile, the PSP and NGP are much smaller and lighter than my laptop so no carryon required. And I dont kill my phone's battery before I get to my destination...a phone that cost $300-350 too so price is not the issue.
True. But this is why I bought a console I would rather wait 5 years for a better console than to get NGP right now.
Yep. And you can carry your PS3 to an airport and use it while you are waiting for a flight. Current iDevices barely last 2 hours while playing newer games. Given the size of the NGP, 5 hours is practically guaranteed. And laptops that cost under-$1000 are useless here. No one designs PC games for integrated Intel graphics chips.
No -- I would just play different games on an airplaine, train, and on a long bus/car ride. Or carry a laptop if I want games that are way deeper and more sophisticated than anything on an NGP.
Obviously Uncharted isn't the only NGP game with nice graphics...Probably a myriad of NGP only games as well.
I am actually use to lugging my psp around, so "brick" issues don't really bother me. But yeah I do believe I am going to buy an NGP. And I will play both iOS and Sony games.
