What? I don't own any Sony products. Nor do I like Sony. I just know for a fact that for gaming, the NGP beats the iPhone.

If anything, I'm an Apple fanboy, but I know that some things can't be compared.

    And Hodapp...seriously?

Weren't PSP titles full games and high quality like their PS2 counterparts? And over 60 million people bought PSPs. The PSP died due to bad security, so everyone used custom firmware and pirated all their games and developers had no more money to make.

But Sony learned their lesson and I'd assume that hacking the NGP will be very difficult, and will take 5 years like it did for the PS3.

That website is a lie because Xbox 360's have sold over 50 million units while PS3 is 41.6 million. That website is a Japanese website they like Sony over there.

No, most North American PSP games were pretty terrible. There were a few good games here and there, but by and large most were decidedly mediocre. I'm pretty sure bad security had nothing to do with the death of the PSP as your typical Madden playing moron who makes up the bulk of the console gaming populace can barely figure out how to work Limewire, much less install custom firmware on their device.

How are you figuring it will take five years to hack the NGP? That seems like a silly assumption based on completely anecdotal data. It sounds like the NGP is being built with off the shelf components instead of dedicated Sony hardware. This will only make it easier for hackers.

Maybe...But PSP games were far better than anything we have on the iPhone.

And if you'll put it that way...most PS3 titles are crap as well. Just the few exclusives and better multi-platform titles that are good. And considering the depth and price of the games...you'll only need 6-7 games.

Also Madden playing morons? I'd say over half the kids in my school have jailbroken iDevices, and everyone single person I know with a PSP has custom firmware. Not to mention surveys done that showed that the majority of PSP users had custom firmware. And it's not a hard process either. On earlier firmwares it was very easy. Seriously, considering the majority of PSP owning is made of up kids/teenagers, there aren't very many Madden playing morons. Most people under 30 these days are more than capable of jailbreaking their devices.

Also...LimeWire? The last I've heard about that program was back in 2005. If someone wants to pirate something, that's the last place they will go.

The reason why the PSP died is also why PC gaming is largely irrelevant today. Pirating PC games is just too easy. Just a few clicks really. Most companies have found that their games are pirated on PC 5 times as many times as bought and so they don't bother making half decent PC titles because they know the amount of money they will make is limited. All PC gamers like me get are crappy console ports. But we continue using PCs because of the few gems here and there that make our platform shine.

Define "terrible". Maybe PSP games are a bad value, but when "mediocre" PSP games (e.g. Lego Harry Potter or Crimson Gem Saga) are considered "incredible" and "epic" on iOS, then certainly you're not giving the PSP enough credit?

The average quality of the games in the AppStore is undoubtedly lower than that of the games for the PSP... which is the only reason why I'm looking forward to the NGP as a replacement for my iPod. Developers will invest more into the platform leading to more complex games with higher production values, not to mention that they will actually be able to take full advantage of the hardware instead of crippling games to support 1st and 2nd gen devices. Even MC2 doesn't have the community features and clan system that the Syphon Filter game I played 5 years ago on my PSP had.

I think when you try to make the case that iOS gaming is all about "angry birds" people just don't take it so well.

well if you look at the appstore and all it's games it's 70% 2D/2.5D casual and 30% 3D games and of the 30% 3D games only 50% of it can be considered "hardcore"

where as the NGP is 90% 3D hardcore games

PSP was and still is great, NGP will be way beyond the Iphone 5 when it comes to games and from what I've been reading may be getting app store style programs as well. As much as I like my ipod phone sized devices just don't have the batterylife for serious gaming I wish apple would stop trying to make the things thinner and just add bigger batterys but we know they won't.

Sony's making exactly what I want in a mobile device and while it's to early to know all the details I'm quite excited about it as it looks like they have done everything right.

Just reading about apples latest stance on ebooks I'm thinking it may be time to desert ship as that's one of the main thing's I've used mine for.

I fail to see how your point contradicts mine.

im saying ios isnt ALL about angry birds but that genre seems to be the most successful and if you look at the top 25 you can see my point sure idevice could do hardcore fps like mc and nova but anything ios can do ngp can do better because it was designed with games in mind

Hilarious Post. I think they are called skinny jeans. Hilarious when a dude tries to rock them.

I also am 34 so i feel the same way about handhelds. there have been many hardcore games for handhelds. All systems now have both casual and hardcore games. No system only tailors to one demographic. With the one exception of maybe the Wii which is 85% shovelware garbage and advertise that they are for the "family". And i LOVE Nintendo so im not bias. Its just the sad truth. Cant wait to see some more hardcore games from Nintendo.

There will always be a market for proper hand held games consoles like the PSP and NGP. iPhones just dont cut the mustard when it comes to series gaming as they lack proper controls. Playing FIFA 11 on the iPod or iPad is a nice experience, but I simply love FIFA 10 on my PSP becuase the controls are soo tight and responsive.

I don't think that's Apple's way. They don't like to respond, they prefer to do their own thing. If a feature is heavily advertised in a competing product, they won't say anything about it nor will they do anything until all their customers are screaming at the top of their lungs to include it. We'll see a natural evolution of iPhone and iPod touch hardware and it won't look much different if the NGP had never been announced.
