If you don't hire someone to make custom sound effects, what are some good sites you go to for sound effects and music? I need some for my upcoming game. Thanks.

I always recommend hiring a professional if you have the budget, as they'll be able to customize a sound world that helps players immerse themselves in your game. However, if that's not an option then there are a few high quality SFX/Music libraries out there I could recommend.

Send me a PM with the sounds/music style you're looking for and I can help point you in the right direction.

For clients who have a project with zero budget, I've been recommending Audio Jungle for music. Shop carefully and you can find some cool tracks for cheap.

    and ccmixter.org/

obviously you have to check the licenses and cant just take it, but they are good sources.

Music is usually best done by a professional, however certain sound effects you may be able to make yourself. For some other projects on PC I've used Audacity and various free audio sources such as http://www.freesound.org/ to create new sounds. With a bit of editing and mixing a few sounds together you can get some nice effects.

For retro sounds you can always use SFXR which is great for that kind of thing:

If it's not to much trouble, post back with how they are.

    Hey, that's great! Thanks! :)

To give people a better idea of what the 500 .WAV files sound like, I started a new series at my website. It's called... "Free .Wav Wednesday".

This week's free sample is "Heart Monitor"

The post is also a basic sound tutorial.

There's also some great feedback on the GameSalad forum...
