Exactly. They are both useless unless in the very specific case of when I have a show on DVD or DVRed, where I can play back at will. Caveat: I do not have Shazam...
It needs access to my microphone. When I try to deny it... A little message pops up saying please reconsider blah, blah.. It then gives me no option to click cancel. I can't even press on no. So deleted..
Soundhound needs access to the iDevice's microphone so that it can hear the song your are asking it to identify...
If you don't give it access to the microphone, it's useless! It can't identify songs playing nearby if it can't hear them.
Since you don't own Shazam, then you really aren't qualified to comment on what both "do" or "do not do" well. I do own both paid versions, as well as both free versions. I love the fact that they both work on my iPod Touch, and that I can have them "save" a snippet of music I've heard on the radio while out of touch of wifi, for later submission to their databases. From my own experience, I can say that I find Shazam picks up on more "popular" music, whereas SoundHound better identifies jazz, classical tunes, and other more obscure music. YMMV.
The free version has this, the "infinite" version does not. There are two separate apps and it's easy to get them confused.
Me bad, I searched on iTunes on my Mac and selected the free version instead of clicking on the version that has the ∞ in the logo. Got the correct version now...thx !
Are you referring to the promoted artists and link to the 12 Days app? I don't consider those ads. They're not invasive and they're related to music. I see your point but it's also pretty picky. No car repair or insurance crap, for example. It is supposed to be a music discovery app, after all. Edit: Here's an example of the difference: In the free version, there's a bottom-banner iAd on my history page (the head icon). There are no ads of any type on my history page in the paid version. In the free version, there's a promoted link for womens' purses mixed in with the music artists promoted on the front page of the app. In the paid version, there's only links to promoted artists and the 12 Days app.
I was not saying whether one was better than the other, just that a song identifying app is quite useless unless your iDevice is next to you and has that app running all the time. Otherwise, by the time you fumble to get it working, the song would have ended.
I own both but use the SoundHound since when I texted both Shazam was a bit slower IMO and I liked that I could hum the words and most times it would correctly guess the songs. Plus you get the lyrics if you search a song that's playing on the radio that keeps up with the moves along with the song
I have always had the free version and had been considering upgrading to pro..and now that I've got pro, woah, I can't believe people paid $7 for it and still left positive feedback. You're basically paying $7 for ad removal.
Exact same problem! Thought maybe there was something wrong with my phone so I took it apart(which wasn't easy) resoldered some stuff put it back together and now it won't work at all! Took it into an Apple store and they are telling me my warranty is void now! I'm going back to a Motorola bag phone.
They only told you that because you managed to lose the NSA eavesdropping piece. If you can find that and stick it back in, I'm sure they'll honor it.
