Popular forums are often the target of spam bots. Seems that no one was around to delete them as quickly as usual this morning. *shrug*
You should feel blessed to have only seen 5. I feel like I'm going to break my mouse hitting the "report spam" button. The 60s cooldown between reports is annoying too, since the posts often come in groups. Something like 5 reports per 5 minutes would make more sense than 1 per 60s, I think.
Blame it on my broadband connection. Its been really wonky for last couple of days. Couldnt even check NZ releases today :/ You dont need to report all the threads/posts from the same spammer. They all get deleted automatically when they are banned.
Ahh yeah, that is true. I do sometimes see multiple new accounts all created around the same time to spam too.
I feel like I spammed the report button tonight! SO many different things now! And hey Prab! Nice to see you!
Yeah spam has definitely picked up recently, we try to keep as much of it as possible hidden from you guys as quickly as we can. Thanks for reporting them guys.
The "spambot" infestation has been horrible the last few days. Even small websites such as the one I "own" have been getting attacked for some reason.
Hey NEG, nice to see you too And yeah, its been like playing tower defense with spam lately. Lets all keep up the good work
What are they supposed to say? "Oh, thanks for letting us know, I just realized that all the threads I'm deleting is spam" Unless you want to hire a bounty hounter to hunt down the spammers, there is nothing anyone can do about it, except report them, and have the mods delete it
Cant really complain about the complaints here. If I was just visiting these forums as a member, I'd be pretty annoyed too if I saw dozens of spam threads everyday.
Over at GAF there's absolutely no spam. Then again it takes months to get approval for an account, so everyone guards them like treasures. (And the rare occasion when one is hacked/compromised and it suicides in a flame of glory is particularly hilarious) I'm sure there must be a way to achieve a happy medium. Perhaps require an ISP email account instead of a free one? Much more difficult for spam bots to register.
yeah, but I don't use an ISP email at all. And, if your a kid, and your family only gets a few free ones, it doubtful your gonna get one anyway. Some websites require people to enter one of those pictures, where you have to type whatever letter you see. Does that make a difference?
