Spells of Genesis (SoG) is the first blockchain-based trading card game: its storyline and in-game economy are both based on blockchain technology. SoG combines the aspects of a trading card game and an arcade game. Collecting blockchain-based cards to build the strongest deck and fighting your enemies allows you to evolve in a fantastic, Moonga-based world. We are Vanbex, a strategic Marketing, PR, and Consulting firm posting on behalf of the game developer.

The Spells of Genesis story is a blockchain allegory. The cards, depicting important projects and personalities from the blockchain ecosystem, are digital assets, purchasable with BitCrystals (BCY) or other cryptocurrencies. There are many cards already released, some are very limited editions which have raised in value since they are sold out. You can see all of the blockchain-based cards here: http://bitcrystals.com/store.

EverdreamSoft (EDS) is the Swiss-based company who successfully crowdfunded the game raising around USD 300,000 to produce the game back in September 2015. The company has also released their first iOS/Android game back in 2009, named Moonga, it has over 250,000 downloads. Moonga has been integrated with the Blockchain a few months back and all the blockchain-based cards can be played in Moonga as well as SoG. Moonga is available on iTunes here.

BCY are tradable Counterparty assets which act as the game-fuel and premium currency in EverdreamSoft’s upcoming free-to-play mobile game, and flagship trading card game Moonga. They can be used to enhance the gaming experience like buying card packs or unlocking new features.

    Why use BitCrystals?
EDS believes players should have full ownership of their game items. Once a player acquires a game asset, they should be free to own and transfer it. Unlike in other games, they believe a player should be able to keep their assets outside the game database and be completely independent with it. Once they own a game item, they could even find alternative uses for it in other games.

The aim is to transform the free-to-play mobile game economy by creating a fairer economy where players freely share and trade their digital assets, the same way they can do so with physical objects in real life.

Why is SoG different from other games?
The motivation in developing SoG stems from the team desire to create a game in strong cooperation with the community. EDS saw some of their players trading rare cards for more than 1000 USD. A whole economy emerged in the game. This inspired them to conceptualize how they could go beyond that and leverage digital goods ownership.

Since the release of blockchain-based cards the community has been collecting them to play within the game, however some have gone as far as setting up their own online stores to sell cards. The way card sales work is when first released they start off at a low price which then increases progressively as more cards are sold. So the sooner you purchase the cards when released the lower you pay for them. Some community members have taken advantage of this by purchasing cards as soon as they are released and selling them at a higher price when they are either sold out or more expensive to buy directly from EDS. An example of the community involvement is sogassets.com built by a third party to describe every single blockchain-based card, their powers, the number available, and where they are available for sale.

When is SoG going to be available?
EDS has released a beta which is free to play on spellsofgenesis.com, you can give it a test drive here. Upon registration everyone gets 5 free cards to play with. This is a web-based beta however the team has already released betas for both iOS and Android to their crowdfunding supporters. A public release should be available soon. The game is scheduled for a full launch on or before April 2016. In the meantime blockchain-based cards are being released twice a week you can find out more about new releases by following SoG on Twitter @spellsofgenesis.

Do you have any feedback on Spells of Genesis and Moonga?
We would love to hear what you think about SoG and Moonga, please feel free to test the games and post below with any feedback you have. We would also like to hear what you think about a cryptocurrency based game, how difficult it is for you to get involved and what would make it easier for you to acquire game assets. Thank you for reading.
