Most of the game is easy peasy, but some of these solutions are way too exacting to draw with your finger (especially on a phone!) and it’s just maddening, especially given the sloppy, somewhat unclear physics. Usually, at least with regular AppStore titles, that's a GameCenter issue and you can sometimes get around it by turning on airplane mode. I’m having the same issue; I used a hint, tried tracing it exactly (like 49 times), made the same shape but smaller, and several other things. Can’t seem to figure it out. It actually doesn’t seem possible, given that the gears are turning from the center outward. I’m sure I’ll figure it out eventually, but it’s making me not want to play as much. The one that got me was the “release the kraken” one. That damn kraken. Edit: I’ve found that the hint is less a suggested outline and more a vague shape and boundary guide? I dunno. It’s unclear at times. As far as “jam the gears,” try dropping an elongated, inverted U on the gears at just the right time.
