The App Store is a fickle beast. If nothing else, the sale is helping Secret Exit get sales traction, which will ensure continued development of Stair Dismount. I am one of those who picked this up due to the sale. I am thrilled with my purchase With a few more staircases and global leaderboards, as Frand has already detailed this game will be in my top five, all-time favorite apps. Btw, yeah it sucks to get a game and then see the price drop. It happens to all of us. Think for once about the devs. Do you think the people who dedicated their talents and hard work want to drop their games price to bottom of the barrell pricing? I highly doubt it. If sales aren't where they should be, I'd be worried about future updates by a dev if they don't do what it takes to make it. I've seen some devs just throw their app in and let it sink or swim; if it's sinking and the dev doesn't take proactive measures, more times than not you won't see further development. This is my first Secret Exit purchase (besides Spin Lite) and I'm now thinking of buying Zen Bound.
<advert> Well it IS really really cheap now, especially considering you get a free soundtrack in which i play all kinds of objects that say "klang". Who wouldn't want a soundtrack like that? Who wouldn't want a game in which you wrap wooden objects? Did I mention ZB is on sale? </advert>
Cheers! You may have noticed that Zen Bound is now on sale too at $1.99 EDIT: Good grief, our marketing monster has been unleashed!
Zen Bound is one of the very few apps I have (which is a very large number) which I value as highly as the day I bought it. It is stunningly good value at this price.
Frand, I just bought the game and am very upset with it. It doesn't have great soundtrack which we can download for free, it's not zen and it doesn't have rope! Just kidding I just bought the game and will sync it to my iPhone tonight. I'm sure it's great as all your games. Btw, I bought SPiN and Zen Bound at full price, so now it's time for me to get some sale from Secret Exit
Out of respect for a loyal customer, we are immediately making the official background music from Stair Dismount available as a free download The Official Dismount Background Tune This is also linked in the Downloads-section of the Stair Dismount website. Note, the music is designed to loop, which is why it sounds like it ends abruptly unless set to repeat.
Frand any updates in the future going to allow levels like you demonstrated previously where the levels are affected by the physics as well? I saw one where platforms were falling all over the place, and crushing Mr. Dismount to death... I WANT THAT LEVEL! BTW... I had to get it with the price drop... Thanks!
That level only needs a ninja PC to run smoothly There are some improvements we can still put into Dismount to improve its performance, but dynamic objects colliding with other dynamic objects (and not just static stairs) is a huge burden on the CPU. The reason why most other ragdoll games are 2D is simple: it's much, much less taxing on the hardware. If the sales take off and there's a huge community starving for more dismounting, then of course we'll put our time and effort into trying out different stuff to see what works and is fun. Just out of personal preference, if we ever add other dynamic moving things in the game, they have to be meaningful. Just bumping into cubes that fly into the air isn't fun or interesting: the mass of the objects needs to be felt and their impacts properly communicated (more sound effects needed, for example). Getting things to shatter into smaller pieces would be really nice, but really, really unlikely to happen on a portable device. The skis in the upcoming level are kind of a fun excuse for the setting, and sometimes they add a little extra interest in the way they interact with the ragdoll. Still, crashing into something that topples down is a dangerous route to follow, the iPhone isn't so powerful that it can run large-scale simulations. And large-scale destruction tends to be more fun than small-scale disasters (Now... animated objects are another thing entirely!)
@Frand I just want you to know that I purchased this at full price a day before it dropped and I want you to know that I'm very happy with my purchase and I'm glad that I could support your efforts. You have made a great app that I'm having a blast showing it to my friends. Please keep up the GREAT work!
I had a great idea for a new set of stairs, I know you said that dynamic objects would be tough, but if there there is a way, it would be awesome. You could make Mr. Dismount fall down the up escalator, this would provide a longer fall than on the normal stairs (if the physics work right ) and it would be awesome. Another thought, and this one is a little strange, but how about a ladder placed on the upper part of a roof, like on a two story house, where the bottom is on the roof, and it's resting on the upper level wall, and then you can push Mr. Dismount over (ladder too maybe). Just some thoughts, this game is awesome and I know it can only get better.
Bought Stair Dismount at full price, and am damned glad I did. Now I won't feel like I'm kicking a toddler in the teeth and stealing his teddy bear when I download the update. You cheap bastards should be ashamed of yourselves. But, if it generates more downloads for Secret Exit...then I guess the price drop is a good thing.
i know you barely submitted the update... but how many more levels are you planning, each level is fantastic.... worth every penny!!!! and happy u r adding a lot and actually listening to us.... that just makes us happy.....i promised not to cry........i cant talke anymore......its just so touching u listen to us.....lol.. thx man
Rich, buy Zen Bound for $2! You won't regret it, as long as you have the free time to spend with it It's a beautiful game, and once you get into it you'll feel like you stole it for a measly $2. They said 3 new levels in the update. The ski slope, Mt. Dismount, and the huge tower. And PS: Thanks for the background music, I'm "rocking out" to it right now!
just bought Just bought both Zen Bound and Stair Dismount after reading the reviews in the forums. Can't wait to spend some time with both this weekend.
