I'm not a Star Wars fan at all, and am still not after playing KOTOR. But it's a quality game, it's right up your alley if you like dialogue trees, roleplaying, big immersive worlds and if you're a fan of Dragon Age or Fallout. Plays a lot like Dragon Age. Shadow Sun does too, but its controls are really clunky. KOTOR is definitely worth it especially at $4.
As I said, you don't need to be a SW fan to enjoy the game and if you like BioWares newer titles then this is much much better. *I'll note that I don't think this plays much like Dragon Age at all, at least the PC version, and I'm not sure how Fallout would remotely relate, I assume you're referring to Bethesda's entry.
Awesome! Yeah I was referring more to Obsidian's Fallout NV and how immersive and interesting the world and stories are. Fallout 3 and Bethestha's recent games usually focus more on the open-world aspect, which KOTOR kinda lacks. I guess Fallout was on my mind as it was the last game I've completed. Oh, and I think it does play like dragon age. You can queue up actions for yourself and party members, and have the same kind of dialogue trees and in-depth conversations/quests with party members. No top-down tactical view but It's similar.
By that standard I'd call the sequel more similar to New Vegas, both also being superior sequels; though in the analogy KotOR is a much better game than Fallout 3. To Dragon Age, yes, there are certainly similarities in combat but enough of the other systems are different to keep KotOR a good game; I hated playing Dragon Age anywhere past the origin stories.
Looks promising, but the game is just too damn big for my measly 64gb iPad 3. I think I'll have to wait until I upgrade in autumn before I buy this.
I wish people stop comparing KOTOR to be like Dragon Age when it's actually the other way around. Baldur's gate was one of the first top-down RPGs that uses the round-based, realtime system, and DA is one of the latest. Planescape Torment, KOTOR, Neverwinter Nights and a few others are somewhere in the middle.
People compare the old to the new with which they're familiar. Also, for reference, Planescape is the exact system and engine from Baldurs Gate, that being the Infinity Engine, and it's typically referred to as Real-Time with Pause.
If you're on Steam, the entire Star Wars franchise is discounted. KOTOR 1 and 2 are on sale for $3.39 each.
I played this all the way through years ago, but the $4 price got me to get it again. It was really that good, and the portable aspect of it on my mini can only help it. This one is easy to recommend at the price it's at, the only real downside is the size.
