Wow, how time flies in one year, and how TA has changed too. Gotta say, the more I played, the more I like it. Very highly recommended! And if you like this, get Duet Game, it's awesome too!
I went days without food because I was too focused on beating Hardestestest to get up and make myself a meal. When a game demands "just one more go" a thousand times and you are compelled to answer the call each time... Yeah, this game is addicting. Pick it up if you dare.
After it was a part of most of the respected iOS gaming sites' best pf 2012, tis hard to believe not everyone has it yet. Plus, it became the standard for pure gameplay games. When games like Octagon, Boson X, Duet, Expander and similar others were released, one question was commonly asked, "is it like Super Hexagon?" And the usual answer to more questions to these games is "it has a Super Hexagon vibe"
Yep. And I still consider it to be the best "twitch" game around...even above those games that took the formula and made it something new again.
I almost bought this after reccomendations a few days but I decided to wait until id worked my way through boson x and octagon and line bound, Id be silly not to pick it up now.
I watched a lot of sanuku's video in the game thread plus the TA Plays and I don't think I'd enjoy this as much as others. It's amazing to see such positive feedback on what seems to be an insanely hard game, but I'm gonna spend the buck elsewhere (maybe on one of the 10 Tons games I don't have).
@nightc1 I always had the same thoughts although I love these type of games. I bought it 2 days ago (yes I'm late) and it's a very hard game. It's good without a doubt but there are games I enjoyed much more (Duet Game, Expander, Boson x).
I watched the TA Plays, I watched Sanuku's video, & I read comments in the forums and on the main site. There's nothing sad about making an informed decision and knowing yourself as a gamer well enough to determine if something may be fun or not. Seems like it would be more sad and misguided to just buy games that are loved/hyped and follow the herd like some kind of lemming and not find games that just put a joker sized grin on your face.
You are totally entitled to your own judgement. I meant sad as in it makes me sad. I just can't imagine anyone into hardcore games (as much as they are possible on iOS) not absolutely loving Super Hexagon. Can I gift it to you? I totally will. PM me
Thought I might mention, a new game just came out that could almost be called Super Hexagon 2, it's only 99 cents and I highly recommend it. So if you like Super Hexagon, consider this too. Groove Vortex http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=209602
Alright, thanks to Royce I gave it more than my usual research and gut check. I gotta say, I was right. So far I really feel like this is a bit too frustrating and not much fun. For once though I wish a game actually had an easy/practice mode. I love the music and vibe (as much as I did watching the videos), just not the gameplay. Playing the hardest mode does help get in to the zone for the regular hard mode, but on the small screen with the (IMO) imprecise controls, I feel like I'm not getting enough warning. Maybe this is much better on iPad? Maybe it's better with an analog stick or virtual slider/steering? It maybe on a console or PC? Well, it was cool to try it for myself. I'll give it a few more tries, but I'm not expecting its my thing.
It actually controls much better on the iphone, the ipad version is even more twitchy. But ipad has a much music visualizer feel, so that would help. Try Duet Game sometime, you might like it better.
I'm actually pretty sure Duet isn't for me either. I did my research there too. I enjoyed Pivot to some degree, but not to the point of playing it for more than a couple nights. I think if this is a genre (spinning puzzle navigation games?), its probably just one I'm not going to be a big fan of no matter how hard I try. Like rally racing and other stuff I don't find fun. Melodive kind of fits in here too though I just reinstalled it a day or so ago due to the update which is now out that adds a non-timer casual mode. Looking at the leaderboards for Super Hexagon, I think it's clear we've found my kryptonite.
So you saying you like Super Hexagon now? also try Groove Vortex, a new release, it has some really nice graphics especially on ipad retina. Getting harder to play super hexagon cause the graphics are so much better in Groove Vortex.
