No worries. This is sometimes a side effect of the audience calibration you may have recently witnessed. Well, except the maybe the chicken. I'm not sure what's up with him. I would recommend attempting recalibration by watching the trailer a few more times. :p

So this is coming next month? It has the potential to be the iOS game of 2011, just like Hellsing's Fire was in 2010 and Spider in 2009.

Did the Audience Calibration Procedure leave you feeling hungry and perhaps, strangely disoriented? It is recommended that you go here and watch this:

    http://www.gamercamp.ca/gamercamp-keynote-sword-sworcery-team

This is the keynote speech that was given by Jim Guthrie, Kris Piotrowski and Craig Adams of the S:S&S EP team at Gamercamp Lv2 last November. There was a LOT of new footage in here of the game that I hadn't seen before.

The vernal equinox has never seemed further away, yet, never closer.

I see this question a lot around the net. I can only give you my opinion, for what it's worth.

The mystery surrounding S:S&S EP is intentional. It's part of the draw. You see this cool looking "thing" and curiously wonder, what is "it"? I think of S:S&S EP as more of an experience than a clearly defined game. I think of it like watching a film by David Lynch or Charlie Kaufman. Or playing a game like ICO, Spider, Braid or Small World. You are presented with an experience in which the director (or in this case, developer) leaves you to decide what your takeaway will be in a very sophisticated way that most games ignore. Will there be sword fighting? Yes. Will there be magic? Yes. You can enjoy (or dislike) the game at this superficial level if you so choose, and that's OK. Some people have a hard time functioning beyond clear borders and marked lines, where everything isn't spelled out. Is that to say I'm not looking forward to sword fighting and spell casting in the game? Absolutely not. I look forward to them as a PART of what S:S&S EP has to offer. I think the real pay off will be for digging deeper into the game both in function and in thought. I think there will be a whole mythology to explore and contemplate. Lots of new ideas to think about in different ways. A hundred neat little things to explore, all happening at different times. Fantastic vistas to quietly view and appreciate. Soul moving music to close your eyes and listen to. Then you get to compare your experiences with others which is one of the best parts! "Oh, you thought "this" about "that"? Awesome! I never thought of it that way!" All this and a fantastic gaming journey to boot.

YOU will choose what S:S&S EP will be to YOU. And THAT is an experience (especially in games) that simply is not catered to enough. ;)

    Nice article today Eli!

Oh S&S team, you sly devils. That's a good approach to game design that probably isn't used enough. Cramming things in at the last minute is seldom graceful in it's implementation and, more often than not, probably hurts more than it helps. I think the method you've chosen is going to pay dividends in a big way.

Did everyone read the today's article carefully? Let me reiterate:

"Superbrothers' weren't willing to let me shoot any video of the game yet, but the good news is that next week we'll have a full hands-on of the final version of Sword & Sworcery."

    Final version. :)

Do you know what torture is? How's this for awful irony? My son is doing a school project this month where every night we have to go outside and look for the moon. If he can see it, he has to draw what it looks like. Some nights, I want to boot that moon right in the ass till it shows full. :D

The game has been in a "finished" state for a year? Wow.
That is actually one of the best developer techniques I've ever heard of.

Cheers for that ErikTheRed, I understand what you mean.

I am 99.9% certain that it is coming to the smaller iDevices too, only just a month later.

It was already on my top most wanted list, but after seeing a pic from Twitter about Eric Chahi playing S&S (and enjoying it) the wait is unbearable.
Too bad I've an iPhone and I'll have to wait a month more...
The new shots look incredibile, with a layer of polish and extra effect that I cannot wait to see in motion.

LOL what are you talking about, you haven't even played it yet, my god . . .

And yes I saw the trailer, it doesn't show anything related to gameplay, and yes I know TA is supposed to get a hands on next week. Still, the person asked if this will be hack n slash, and then you go into some philosophical tangent. The answer is we don't know, neither does Erik, we will hopefully find out next week when TA is supposed to demo the game.

I guess we are both guilty of delusions, eh Cilo? I of wishful enthusiasm, and you of dark skepticism. Weren't you calling the game "vapor" just recently? Well, let's hope, if Eli's latest article is correct, that the devs were paying a little more attention to the enthusiasm and a little less to the skepticism. It would really suck if they decided to make the game vaporware. ;)

That was an AWESOME shot. I think Brandon Boyer coined it best with "A snake eating its own tail: Eric Chahi inspires Sword & Sworcery EP inspires Eric Chahi" That's a huge compliment to both parties.

Not all of them. Just those that really push the medium outside the box which is, I believe, what we are about to see done with S:S&S EP. ;)
