Lots of good games, don't get me wrong, but since we're including ports, MHFU should win this hands down.

XCOM is great, no doubt, but it's already been released before and I think it's a lot more unforgiving than MHFU in some respects.

Out of all the games I nominated, Sky Force 2014 got the most play time this year. Makes me sad that it didn't make it through. Of the ones that did make it this far, there are a few real standouts that I'm leaning towards, but I need to think about it a little more before voting.

Thanks so much to everyone who played a part, large or small, in putting this together.

    Threes, no question.

All though MHFU seems to be in the lead, perhaps I am missing out as I haven't played it...

With Desert Golfing not making the cut (sorry) it has made it quite easy. Air Supply SOS took a long time to come but it took me right back to my youth in a very modern way. Perfect in every way for me.

    Happy New Year to all.

Thanks for the poll but I won't vote. It's like picking a favorite child.

Battleheart Legacy for me. I spent the most time on that easily.

I played the hell out of MHFU on PSP and my Vita and while its a great game I just can't bring myself to playing the port with touch controls.

On the other hand XCOM EW is incredible, plays wonderfully, and controls great on iOS. At least on iPad. That gets my vote.

Thank you UDC, Andy, and anyone else involved in making this happen... It's so great that we have individuals like you around here. You guys and all the other GREAT individuals who decide to spend their time here are the reason why TA has been the only forum I've stuck around for more than a couple months.

So... GOTY. I had to vote for XCOM. It wasn't in my nominations, and I probably should have voted for something else, but Autumn Dynasty Warlords was my personal GOTY, while XCOM was a very close second. The game is incredible... There's just not much more that can be said about it. I've sunk a good part of 200+ hours into the game so far and have no intention of quiting in the future. Seeing it there on the list, I couldn't bring myself to select another circle. No other game on that list has sucked me in like XCOM, and it's one of a dozen or so that have left a heafty impression throughout my life.

    So yup... There it is.

Sad to see Bug Heroes didn't make it, but the games that did are great so oh well.

Battleheart for me. Lots of ways to play and the dialogue is great XD

I hope it's not too off-topic of me to jump in to say thanks to Roger-NL, alperiskender, and sink_or_swim for including Shoot The Moon in their nominations.

Warms the cockles of me heart, it does. :)

As for the finalists... Leo's Fortune is the one I spent the most time with, though I also loved MV (it's like playing with a beautiful toy). But I must admit there are several I still haven't gotten around to playing so not sure if I should cast a vote. I still haven't played Threes, for crying out loud. For shame! :/

Ok... Casting my vote. But first a bit of how i got to pick it.

In a previous post i mentioned i wanted to pick a game from an indie dev... So it had to either be Wayward Souls, or Battleheart Legacy. I also mentioned how i love Monster Hunter, as it's one of my most favorite game titles of all time.

Thing is, everytime i think about which one to pick between Wayward Souls and Battlheart Legacy, the thought of not picking MHFU always crosses my mind. Then, i'd proceed to kill a nargacuga, or a tigrex, or anything really, with a lance or a sword and shield, coz im having fun practicing those weapon classes lately.

This happened twice now. Im trying to figure out which of the 2 to pick, while thinking of and eventually playing MHFU.

So yeah, it's been made clear to me by my inner child, and by my actions, that i just had to pick MHFU as my 2014 Game of the Year.

    So there ya go. Cheers!

MHFU is one of those games which makes me feel apathetic to every other game on my 'pad. I'll flick through them all and it'll be the only game that'll make my eyes light up. I've got a lot of keepers on there, so it's not that the other games are disposable trash, but MHFU... It's a miracle: you trawl through these beautiful, visionary worlds, step-by-step, on the trail of these fearsome beasts which writhe and shriek and flex their sinewy muscles just like real animals spawned from some alien-but-familiar planet, and you wage an all-out war on them which, unlike most wars, is pretty even-sided. The game still adds whole new, unforeseen dimensions, and unlocks gorgeous new locations, dozens of hours in; what other game would hold back such meticulously designed maps that far in? The graphical overhaul, to some degree at least, makes this an IOS baby. I haven't even dared try out too many different weapons yet, which would make this play like an entirely different game. If it wins- looks like it may do- I hope this thread convinces a ton more people to take the plunge. Even when Multiplayer eventually peters out altogether, which it almost certainly will eventually, I can see myself playing single-player as long as my ipad still works.

If I remember well last year there were more than 250 voters but don't pin me down on it.

Is this thread still alive with a mere 130 voters, I see this trend on the game of the week also happening fewer and fewer people.

I only see the hardcore Toucharcaders here.

I was thinking the same thing earlier. I actually tried to find the 2013 poll but couldn't.

Kinda surprised so many people chose MHFU.

I absolutely love MH, played MHF2 on PSP and am playing MH3U on 3DS (getting MHFU on iphone actually pushed me to get a 3DS and monster hunter) but I just dislike it for this platform. The multiplayer works fantastically but just couldn't get into the touch controls 100%, which is a first for me (though they are exceptionally well done for what they are). Even if I had an MFi I still don't think I coulda gotten into it since it kills my 5S in 30 mins.

I think it's a fantastic game that's been ported with a level of quality that is rather uncommon, especially going handheld to iOS, but I still don't think the game really fits the platform.

My 2(0) cents if anyone cares

I care! I really respect your opinions here in TA and i think you're one of the kool kats here, so it's hard not to care :)

I believe it fits the platform really well. The MH titles are "perfect" on handheld/portable platforms like the PSP and the 3DS. This means it can potentially be at least "good" or even "great" on mobile devices like the ones on iOS.

The only huge barrier that can make it at least a "good," a "great," or even a "perfect" would be the controls. Fortunately, Capcom did a fantastic job with the controls implementation on the touchscreens. It still isnt as good as with physical buttons admittedly, but it does play really well.

...And then there's the MFi Controller support that negates the whole Q&A regarding the controls on iOS.

Plus, Capcom provided a huge graphic improvement. Everything has been improved compared to the handheld gaming devices. They look really stunning on both the ipad's large screens and the iphone's smaller screens. It feels like the game was designed for the apples.

They also auto-included all non-promotion DLC quests.

And they provided an easier way to play with other people which was one of the best things going on in MH in any platform. On the iOS version, all it needs is a decent wifi connection, and you wont be hunting alone. On the PSP xlink was pretty hard to get working properly, and there isnt really a lot of players using that.

With all these things mentioned, and
i strongly believe MHFU is a really good fit on iOS.
