AppRaven is great for what it is, but its no TouchArcade. I think what most of us will miss when this place goes down is a platform where we can discuss and share opinions with eachother. AppRaven in its current state don’t have that.
It’s unfortunate to hear about the Toucharcade site closing down as I have been coming here every day since roughly 2009. I really think someone should create a Reddit thread for this forum, I believe someone made a similar suggestion a few pages back. What are everyone’s thoughts? Reddit isn’t going anywhere and it would be a good place to keep the Toucharcade IOS gaming discussion going. In some ways, Reddit is a more modern iteration/extension of what people have been doing here, except it’s far more visible.
I have been a member here since the ipod touch third gen. So a long ass time!!! I found the site looking ip ipod touch games on google. this site had it all reviews, previews, this awesome forum! ill never forget the days of indie games not this f2p crap we seem to only have anymore. discovering Meteor Blitz and how cool it was and how well it ran. Learning about the Radian games library, games like Fireball, Inferno 1-2, Slydris very original and very good controls for a touch game. games like Tilt to live 1-2, Mini Gore 1-2, Solomons Keep and Boneyard, Galaxy on fire 1-2, wreckless racing, horn , dark meadow, and one of my fav of all time Space Miner 1-2 those games were amazing. the list just goes on and on on of the great indie titles Ive discovered over the many years here on Toucharcade! Sadly many of these were removed once the app store removed all the awesome 32 bit stuff during the useless purge!! infinity Blade 1-3 when bigger game devs started seeing the vision of mobile gaming and what a phone/tablet/touch could do! The point I'm making is i would of never known about a-lot of the games I've played over the years if it was not for the amazing toucharcade. For there reviews and this wonderful community. The whats new section to see all the latest releases. I beta tested a-lot of stuff, got to talk about bugs found with the devs right on the forum posts. I will miss checking the site for the new games coming out Wednesday night late going into Thursday morning. hats off to the amazing Toucharcade team and moderators! Metalcasket , Boardumb, Lawliet, Nelson, too many names to mention. Thank you for the awesome memories!
Sad times indeed. A cursory search shows some platforms that seem to offer “free” forum hosting. Does anyone know anything about that? Is anyone familiar with this sort of offerings? If it’s a regular sort of forum with various banners to bankroll it would that be so bad? Maybe I’m not understanding the implications of “free”.
I’ve created a subReddit so that we have somewhere to rally if the forums disappear without notice. Not suggesting it as a permanent solution, rather a stopgap measure so that we don’t lose contact whilst a more permanent solution is decided upon. https://www.reddit.com/r/TouchArcadeRefuge/s/XEQtOLqD1J
There's also a newly added section in TA's Discord channel for forum-like interaction. It's still fresh and feels empty, but it's meant to pick up the pace. Link to join ↓ ↓ ↓ TA's Discord Channel
If we’ve got something pre-existing then even better. I’ll have a look. edit: which is the forum-like channel? edit2: found the forums; didn’t realise you had to enable them. Am I right in thinking there’s just the upcoming and arcade ones? I couldn’t see a games released one or an off topic which seems like it would be good to have to replicate what we have here.
It's a brand new addition to the Discord. Trying to bring up stuff that's useful as quickly as possible. Note that the server already has #the_chatroom which is off topic chat. I do plan to add a released games forum. Edit: there's an iOS games forum now, please enjoy!
These forums has been a regular staple in my life on and off for the last 9 years. I'm sure like most members here, I'd drop by the forums a few times a day for news or updates. Sadly, these days I just don't have the enthusiasm for iOS games as I did in the past. However I am glad that developers today, are still releasing games as a premium. I discovered so many amazing games just from visiting these great forums and reading comments. And was also very cool that develops would interact with us and answer questions and give us updates. A BIG Thank You to all the amazing people who ran, maintained and modded this amazing forum. And Thank You to all the members who provided comments, reviews and feedback. Plus a BIG Thank You to the developers who through the years gifted us promo codes for the TA members. Jared, Shaun and Mikhail, I do wish all of you quick and employment. Without this wonderful forum, so many games would of gone undiscovered. Alex (Keep on gaming at any age) P.S. Still have my fingers crossed for Matt Rix's Trainyard to be updated to newer devices, but still sad.
