Speak for yourself. And where in the world did you even get that idea? I hope you're not basing this "fact" on what you have read in this forum, since the vast majority of iDevice owners aren't forum members. It seems like the OP's main fear is that app prices will increase, and his "budget" of $10/month won't be enough. Maybe it won't...but there are plenty of gamers who would rather pay a higher price for a spectacular game than 99 cents for a mediocre one. Personally, I think the release of the Tablet will be a real game-changer in terms of quality and price. Things are going to get real interesting around here real soon.
I'm guessing you're an indie developer, based on the fact that you constantly complain about how indie developers produce better games than the major companies. Personally, I believe that the iDevice platform would be successful with a mix of games developed both indie developers and major companies. Without the major companies, the platform would not grow and become successful.
If that were true then the sales would show it. Honestly I hope you are not a developer. Arrogance does not serve their cause.
I think the future is fine. Unless apple restricts the sdk to big budget companies only, we will still have indies and still have users able to support them. As long as indies are willing to do it for the love of developing games and making a little side money we should be fine.. I doubt there will be too many more indie millionaires, but that is a pipe dream anyway.
this thread is dumb... big name devs arent going to overwhelm indie devs? how do you even remotely come to this conclusion, indie devs will still put out some good apps at decent prices.. This was obviously going to happen, its a good thing .. how obvious ..
And where did you get this "statistic" from? And besides, 90% of 99c games are made by DS Effects, so I doubt that they are better than Gameloft games.
If the app store was all big companies, think of the huge slice of revenue Apple just cut. Maybe Apple will only allow top 10 selling artists On major labels to have their music on iTunes, that would be an innovative and great business plan Seriously though, Apple puts a lot of pride in the fact that the sdk is open source and that there are over "one billion apps". I thought I heard that Sony was starting to expand the psp sdk availability somewhat as well. I personally think indie dev's are the future. Not all the big guys know what to do with making low priced games. THQ is a joke. They slightly resemble an "app spammer" at the moment. To them a quality 99c game is a little Star Wars sound effects toy. I don't think indies are going anywhere though. The tablets not going to change that. Look at the mac and pc - open source always Someone else said it, and I too have a fear of buying big comp. games as well, as they never add content and the build stays at 1.0 or 1.001 The only updating is to fix bugs, which is bull. Half the time they don't fix anything, just get noted again.
I think the future is not bleak, but bright. Indie developers can make great games like doodle jump and pocket god, but having some big game developers make games gives more choices for games. I think the future of the AppStore be great
This coming from the kid that said Broken sword's art is 'crappy'! I wonder what games you find awesome?
If that were so, Gameloft would not be as sucessful as it's been. I'm not saying this because I like their games all that much. However, it is clear that many people do.
i like gameloft sometimes... but as for indies, more of them need to make full, console quality games, or new unique games (like spider, sword poker, rolando).
Why can't I call something that in my eyes is crappy, crappy? Anyway, there aren't many games I'd call awesome, but here's a few: Inotia 2; Ravensword; Jet Car Stuns; Battle For Wesnoth; Labyrinth 2; Sway; Sword Of Fargoal; Soosiz and some others.
