From what I read in the OP, the future of iPod gaming is bleak because small companies can't compete and because big companies will raise prices, but won't the latter prevent the former?
Unless there comes a more popular platform to develop for, the smaller developers won't just surrender, unless they tire of game making. A cheaper game will get more sales, although the profit may not be as high. Also, several developers are in it for the fun and anybody who puts their price at 0.99 probably doesn't care that much about profit anyway, although it will satisfy them to earn a little. So no, the iTouch market has been perfectly fine for the last 2 years and it will likely stay that way. 9.99 was the price peak in the beginning if you wanted to compete with the market and it still is. Some bigger developers have even lowered their prices to be able to compete with the smaller. The natural effect will be higher prices in a near future, followed by lower prices, then higher, lower, higher etc. That's how business cycles work. I'd worry more about the Tablet, with the big screen and the better processor.
I'm hoping the Tablet won't replace the iPod touch/iPhone too badly; it would be difficult for Apple to sell a new iPhone/touch if the Tablet completely out-specs it.
Smart and innovative: I'd spend $1500 and maybe even $2000 for something like that if it works really well, combined and separated. Apple should take notes Back to topic with Rockstar, Ubisoft and Bioware jumping on-board I don't see a bleak future at all.
Not if that tablet costs close to $1000, isn't as pocketable as the iPhone, and doesn't make phone calls. Remember the Macbook Air....
don't forget that things like PS2, PS3, xbox etc. never got a look in on small devs so really they're lucky with the iPhone... and home consoles are popular enough to last many decades so people clearly like big name games too, so there's room for both I think. There's more mini-devs than big ones
It obviously won't. Could you imagine what an idiot you'd look tilting a massive block while playing NFS inthe middle of a café?!
Fact is majority of indie devs are here to earn some sort of substantial income to be able to keep on updating their apps, if the apps dont sell well then what is the point of developing new apps or updating an old one.
As much as I enjoy developers completing their work after it is sold, there is something to be said for selling a finished product.
It's every indie's dream to earn a million over an app like Ethan did when there are almost no big dev at the appstore, sadly it's no longer possible right now with major devs talking a substantial piece of the pie. Cant blame them for hating the biggies and somehow blaming them for taking away the opportunity that use to be reachable for a lot of them.
couldnt be happier with the current app store situation.... smaller/indie devs can compete for the 0.99 to 4.99 market, and the ones who release useless apps/games will die off. this will get rid of some of the clutter on the store. the big devs will rule the 5.00 and up market
When you call a classic game ,which is widely respected across 2 generation of gamers, crap it tells something about your credibility and taste! The graphics are one of the best and this coming from me, a graphics whore!
Wrong. Why in the world would we want well established businesses to avoid a console? I swear it seems you slap the key board with your face every time you post.
He's not the first one who said that, tblrsa, also argued the same thing! I just hope they are not the same person!
ITA. We only have 11 pages or so, and only so many hours in a week to play games. There are plenty of indie games that are great. We will get better games.
