Hey Mindfield I think something that could help is if you edit the OP and add in towards the beginning that if your question is not listed here of if you need more help please post you question inside the thread so that other users may support you, or something like that.

It is commonly used in phones with internet capabilities and why it is on the iPod Touch is surprising. What it is is it turns off all wireless things like WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth etc for if you are on an airplane for example. (if you turn it off battery life is also preserved)

Chill the hell out. Not everything is going to go your way. Jeez.

  5. Just to run down the checklist:

    - Make sure your device is plugged into a USB port, preferably directly on your computer rather than a hub so as to ensure there's a clean, close signal from the device to the computer.

    - Make sure iTunes is running when you enter DFU mode, and make sure that you keep power+home held down until iTunes tells you it has found a device in restore mode. Your screen should stay black -- no "Connect to iTunes" icon or anything else should be displayed. Your device should appear to be off.

    - If you are on Windows and just upgraded iTunes to 9.2, make sure you rebooted your computer so the driver works properly.

    - If you are using a powered case (eg. Mophie JuicePack or similar), remove the device from the case and connect it directly to your PC or Mac using the standard 30-pin connector.

I should add this to the OP, too.

Well maybe if people weren't so lazy and took 5 seconds to look at the Lounge Board this wouldn't be happening ever 5 seconds.

So what do you guys think of iOS 4

I myself like it, the folders, how i can change the background of my iPhone. I haven't had any problems with it, still smooth no slowness at all, battery decreases as it would before update. How about you guys.

I'm using an iPod touch 3rd Generation... But I can't sync a home screen wallpaper. It just doesn't appear.

    Is this because I'm 8gb?

  12. There we go, stickied and other threads merged (which is going to be a little confusing). That should clear things up. :)

Everything else you said, I have already done.
After I put my iPod into DFU mode, the screen does turn black. A few seconds lader iTunes recognizes that it's in restore mode or something like that but the iPod then lights up with the "Connect to iTunes" Should I wait for that to disappear then try restoring?

Once again, really nice of you to help me out, cause I don't really know what I'm doing =p

There are no 8gb 3rd Generations, The 8gb you have is just a second gen re-released with the true 3rd gen 32 and 64gb iPod Touches.

  15. It shouldn't come on at all, actually, if I remember correctly. (Haven't done this since the OS 2.x days)

Now, the site I linked to does do it a bit differently than I always did it.

Here's how I always did this -- and it requires a little timing, but if done right it works perfectly:

    1. Hold down the power and home buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds.

    2. After ten seconds, release the power button, but keep holding home for another 5-10 seconds.

Then let go. iTunes should recognize the device in DFU mode and the screen should stay off. The screen being off is how you know you're in DFU mode, and not simply restore mode.

Yes - it is - as NA noted - you are a 2nd generation... Many people got confused because they came out at the same time - for the nontechie people - a lot of folks thought they were getting a 3rd generation. Sorry...

I don't believe I have a second Generation iPod. I have Voice memo and everything. Plus can't the second gen not run some games? or is that your firmware.

You have the OS that came packaged with the true 3rd gen devices but not the same hardware upgrades the true 3rd gens have. Apple never released a 3rd gen 8gb.
