It is recognizing it actually. It appears on the left but just the device name, I don't get the little drop down options like I usually do and when I plug it in, it automatically tries to access the Itune store and that's when I get the "unknown error 9812".
Still sounds like a driver issue. I would try reinstalling iTunes as detailed in the first post of this thread. That will reinstall the proper mobile drivers and should solve the problem. If it doesn't, then the problem is the device itself and you will probably have to try going into either restore or DFU mode to reinstall the firmware.
Mindfield, so you think it'd be safe to restore if I already have a backup from yesterday? If I restored before updating, would it still go through the backup process? Thanks man, you're a life saver.
OMFG ejzjsoskfuskslaksieodlkfkdosksieosldkclcopwskja my computer restarted because of some software update overnight while my iPod was backing up. So now it's back to step one.
Okay, this is getting ridiculous. Basically any app that I spend over 5 minutes on gets incredibly slow. The sound lags and framerates slow down, and then it finally crashes. After that, anything I load crashes 1 minute later. Is there a way to rollback to 3.1.3? Or do you think I should just wait for some patch (not likely considering i'm using an iPod Touch 2nd gen)? edit: nvm, i found some useful stuff here: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/1473295.html
ok, can someone who is using gen 3 etc if when you search for a program. if it looks inside the folders? on my gen ipod 2. it is not searching the folders.. seems silly not too.. chris.
I lost all my data. Apps were there, but no data. A restore failed. But I had done a full sync right beforehand; I moved the backup it made from after it installed iOS4 to another HD, leaving only the old backups. directory: C:\Users\Dave\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup . Hopefully I will get my data back. I'll report back how it goes.
Awesome news! I got my notes and such back! All settings, etc. No apps. But when I install them their data is still there anyway! Fixed update wipe of data FTW!
thanks for the feed back.. after a reboot i tried again and its working now.. must of been one of them flukes. ran into some other odd behavior.. that a reboot seems to fix.. im still moving stuff into folders etc.. chris.
Yeah, I've run across one or two one-off glitches. I chalk it up to having went the update path instead of a restore, which I'm sure has at least a chance of mucking up a thing or two, much like a Windows upgrade from a previous version. It's too early to tell what long-term stability will be like but so far it hasn't been that bad.
Looks like Apple is no longer signing the installs of 3.1.3...so trying to restore the regular way gives you an error. If I restore my 2nd gen iPod Touch to 3.1.3 using Cydia SHSH, will I still be able to upgrade to iOS4 some day, when it's more stable? Will it mark me as a jailbreaker or any other crazy things?
I don't believe so, no. Jailbreaking is transparent to iTunes. Updating firmware just happens to kill the firmware modifications jailbreaking makes.
Sorry, misssed that. If you've already done a backup at some point you should have to trouble restoring and getting your stuff back. However, I don't know if it'll try and do another backup -- can't hurt to try though. Putting your device into restore or DFU mode should force iTunes to perform a restore though -- it can't perform a backup when a device is in restore or DFU mode, because you've effectively told iTunes to wipe whatever's on there and start over.
I keep getting Error 3194 when I try to restore my iPod (with DFU/Cydia and normally). According to the apple site, errors 2999-3999 have to do with my internet not connecting to Apple's ports properly. But I followed the steps here, which should circumvent that: http://blog.merrycode.com/how-to-downgrade-ios-4-0-to-3-1-3-on-iphone-3gs-and-ipod-touch-2g3g-using-cydia-shsh/ What did I mess up? edit: nevermind, i did some more reading and it looks like if this happens it means saurik's signature server does not have the signature for 3.1.3. I may just try jailbreaking or find another server. edit2: looks like i'm out of luck. going back to iOS4 and hoping for a patch soon...
You might want to wait a bit. A bunch of Apple's servers seem to be crawling to completely FUBARed at the moment. It has taken me 4 hours to download Assassin's Creed, and half the time any attempts to access to the App Store are met with timeout errors. In all probability, it's not that the server doesn't have the signature, it's that you can't get a foot in the door to get it. I'm betting either mass activations from new iPhone 4 recipients, tonight for whatever reason is seeing a peak for iPhone 3G/3GS/Touch upgrades to iOS 4, or Apple's severely throttling bandwidth in anticipation of the in-store launch tomorrow. Or a combination of all 3.
I'm about to attempt restoring with the 3.1.2 ipsw file, which some people on other forums have said works (even without a saurik/cydia signature). Waiting on it to finish downloading. i'll update this post with the results for anyone else interested. also- if you look on Apple's forums under iPod Touch, tons of other people are having the same crashes and slowdown with Safari, changing General settings, and battery life. D: edit: my attempt at using the 3.1.2 file failed. guess i really am stuck.
Miiiiindfieeeld. I'll save you all my reenactment of swearing violently, but another error message popped up when I woke up to check on it. It said: An error occurred while backing up this iPod (-402636802). Would you like to continue this update without backup? Continuing without backup will result in the loss of all contents on this iPod. What do I dooooo.
