I used to game a lot, mostly strategy games on PC, then my job got busy. When my PC became too outdated I found I didn't have the time to build another and just played games on my iPhone. But after a while that felt limiting. Then got an iPad and enjoyed that for a while.

Then late last year things finally quieted down after a few crazy years at work and with all the great PC titles out or upcoming, particularly Elite:Dangerous, I decided to build another gaming PC. Nice build, all new peripherals even a HOTAS for Elite. But work got busy again and I didn't want to cut down on time for friends, family and sports but my gaming rig was built so the time sink should be out of the way.

Nope, in my case I spent a lot of time troubleshooting Windows issues, conflicts between Origin and Steam, driver problems and some hours scouring forums and support sites for problems with games, macros, voice command, etc.

So for me, over the course of 6 months my PC gaming time amounted to about an hour a week with an average of 2 hours of the above troubleshooting plus the downtime for updates from separate update systems that require their own reboots.

Then I got an iPad Air 2, put my gaming PC in a closet and was able to triple my weekly playtime with very little downtime thanks to iOS being much more mature with a focus on ease of use. I thought it would feel like a letdown missing out on the deeper PC titles but with Slitherines onslaught of good ports, World of Tanks Blitz, Deathwatch, Combat Monsters and the new Total War Battle Kingdoms I am pretty content. For a bit I itched for a 3D space sim/trader, despite there being some really good 2D ones, then I got back into Galaxy on Fire 2. When Galaxy on Fire 3 was shown off briefly for the Apple TV I went nuts. I already have a Madcatz MFi controller that works great for my iPad.

So for someone with better Windows troubleshooting skills, more time or can't find the games on iPad to satisfy them there are better options. I'm selling my gaming rig complete right now, with the iPad Air 2 selling in a couple months, and I'm going to pick up both an AppleTV and iPad Pro to replace them.

But I think gamers aren't the only people with limited time that see a role that the iPad Pro can fill for them.

Seems like you'd be well served with a game console (PS4, Xbox One or Wii U), instead of an iPad Pro. Or go last gen on the cheap with tons of games available for a song.

My Mom bought one (the smaller one). She does a lot of drawing/painting on her iPad and the pro has the pencil as well as lets her rest her hand on the display while drawing. That's a big deal to her.

Just joined the group owning this machine. I got mine for basically having a display for music while playing in a band. I will see if I use it for gaming - right now just music library and sheet music.

Got the 12.9" size so no reading glasses are needed!
