"The Lords of Midnight is not simply an adventure game nor simply a war game. It was really a new type that became known as an epic game, for as you play the Lords of Midnight you will be writing a new chapter in the history of the peoples of the Free. You will guide individual characters across the land of Midnight on vital quests but you will also command armies that must endeavour to hold back the foul hordes of Doomdark, the witch king. Yours will be no inevitable victory." - Mike Singleton 1984 "Lords of Midnight does story-based, large-scope, high-fantasy warfare better than most titles I can think of, iOS or otherwise." - Rating 4/5- PocketTactics.com "This is an outstanding remake and developer Chris Wild, should feel very proud of creating such a superb celebration of the man’s work." - Rating 8/10 - Metro "#1 - Top 5 iPhone and iPad games of the week" - AppMyWorld.com "If you're interested in classic games, especially fantasy and/or strategy games, Lords of Midnight is a must-have." - Rating 4/5 - TouchArcade.com "App of the Year!" - Rating 5/5, Mirror.co.uk "It's an unmissable remake. Few titles weather the storms of time as well as this solid-gold classic." - Rating 4/5 - PocketGamer.co.uk "A must own title; pure genius and extremely entertaining. Recommended." - Rating 98/100 - Arcade Life “Made of extremely bright colors and clean lines, a stylistic choice that was and still is very original.” – Multiplayer.it "Despite the perfectly adapted touch controls and crisp graphic presentation, this is a proper 1980s they-don’t-make-’em-like-they-used-to game" - PocketTactics.com "#3 - Top 10 iPad games and apps of December 2012" - QualityIndex.com "If you love a game, love the game’s creator and want to produce an updated tribute – here’s your benchmark. Almost thirty years old and yet it feels fresh, relevant and completely at home on a touch screen. Recommended without reservation – so good it makes me want to cry." - Arcade Life "Original, longed for and a perfect adaptation of a legendary game. Unlike those Spectrum conversions that are strictly for nostalgia lovers, Chris Wild’s Lords of Midnight will enthrall any gamer who thinks he has what it takes for a true battle of wits where only the most brilliant commanders will survive." - Louise Mensch, Mirror.co.uk "Lords of Midnight is an experience that everybody with a remote interest in games should have, buying into your characters and developing your own war stories is a wonderful thing. It is a game with hidden depths that deserve to be plumbed and I cannot recommend it enough." - KoruCottage.com iOS Best Port/Retro Gamer of the Year" - Arcade Life Please check out www.thelordsofmidnight.com/blog for news on updates and new features to come... ** PLEASE NOTE ** You need iBooks installed to read the Novella. MrMojoRisin Well-Known Member Jul 27, 2012 1,183 0 0 #7 MrMojoRisin, Dec 3, 2013 I can try, even though I've not played it all that much. But it boils down to you moving all of your different characters a certain distance each day. When it reaches nightfall for that character, they are done for the day and you can switch to another lord and do their actions for the day, so they are all moving at the same time, even though you are taking their turns one at a time. Then after tou have moved everyone for the day, you tell the game to progress and it will move the enemies, then it will be your turn again on the following day. As you move each lord (you start with four), they can encounter towns, ruins, enemies, armies or even other lords to recruit toward your cause, or other things. Some lords you want to have adventuring by themselves, such as Morkin, who is on a quest to destroy the Ice Crown. Others, you want to have gather armies under their command to hold back the forces of Doomdark. You can win the game by either defeating all the enemy armies, or destroying the Ice Crown. Or you can go for the "epic" victory of achieving both. nightc1 Well-Known Member Oct 19, 2012 4,362 0 0 AL #8 nightc1, Dec 3, 2013 All the text at the beginning seems a bit overwhelming in that font, but watching some of the rest of the video combined with reading MrMojoRisin's post has me actually interested in this and understanding what's going on. It makes sense that it's a sort of first person perspective turn based strategy rpg type game. I think I could get on board with that. tops2 Well-Known Member Jan 21, 2011 2,083 56 48 #9 tops2, Dec 3, 2013 This is more or less how I feel. Kinda like an epic RPG/first person/choose your own adventure game with multiple characters. The game feels overwhelming at first (and still for me), but the more I play and discover, the more epic the world feels. While not in the same genre, this game and King of the Dragon Pass are two awesome games that's pretty overwhelming, but has a ton of content to discover if given the time and patience. I only play these games once or twice each year due to the amount of time I need to dedicate to this..but I can see myself playing these games till I retired and still not discover everything. nightc1 Well-Known Member Oct 19, 2012 4,362 0 0 AL #10 nightc1, Dec 3, 2013 Alright, bought! That said I have been unable to win the game upon three or so attempts. roninld Well-Known Member Mar 30, 2011 241 0 16 #15 roninld, Dec 4, 2013 Ok, bought this cause it looks interesting and reviews are good and I have become an app sale hoarder. Which is a pity, I have to say, because it is one of the great Spectrum gaming legends and by all accounts is incredibly rewarding. Might need to give this a try again.
