Totally agree!!! Last week of December is the best time to give nominations. This should be on the first page too!!!
Yeah polling should take place in January. GOTY should be picked after that year. Unless you consider games from last December up for nomination...
I have my nominations pretty clear, no new games can change it... so many hours with them full of fun and awe, just why i play videogames for... leave graphics for consoles and bring us gameplay!!!
Who among you will deny Zombie Panic in Wonderland, releasing supposedly on Christmas, a chance at 2011 Game of the Year?!?
Apple picked Tiny Tower GOTY. Tiny Wings and Touchgrind BMX were runners up. Only one of those games might be on my top ten. Interesting..
Touchgrind BMX imo is the only one who deserves a place there... Tiny Wings is awesome for just a while. Ofc it did make one-touch games popular, but still..
Depends on your definition of game of the year. To me, Tiny Tower has had the longest staying power on my device, has appealed to many different types of gamers from the casual on up, changed the meaning of what freemium can actually be, amongst other things. The game on this platform is a ground breaker. I didn't actually sit and think about what my personal Game of the Year might be, I have a few in mind, but when you really step back and think about Tiny Tower - whether you like the game or not - I bet you can see why Apple picked it as well. To me the Game of the Year has to bring something special to the table whether it is appealing to me personally or not. People should choose quality of the game over popularity and hype. Little traits of the game that make it stand out - like I outlined with Tiny Tower. Because of that, not a single port will make my list. How original is that? Those ports got their chances on other platforms to be considered Game of the Year. Well tl;dr - I am probably going to be in the minority of what my choices will be since I won't be looking at the same criteria I would guess.
Yeah, you're completely right and I guess I should've been more specific: It doesn't deserve a GOTY in my opinion. I know it is great and I for one am not nominating only the biggest hyped games, jAggy Race and Punch a Hole might be in my list, but I just didn't enjoy it that much to nominate it as Game of The Year, unlike MC3 which multiplayer I've been playing for 110 hours. It's not about the hype for me, but the time I've put into the game. MC3 is my nomination for sure. Oh and, nominations start December 15th as it clearly says in the OP.
I guess this is why I won't be doing reviews for games like this. They seem to last on my phone for no more than 2 weeks. I personally don't see the fun factor in them. The longest SNG-type game that lasted on my phone was Please Stay Calm and it was very well done. The only casual games that have stolen my heart are runners (which I'm very critical of) and puzzle games (almost anything that can challenge my brain is welcomed on my device). I guess I'll always be a hardcore gamer at heart and will probably never see the true fun in games like these. I don't need to manage a farm, or a hotel, or business on a mobile device. The only micromanaging games I like are TBS/strategy games (King of Dragon Pass comes to mind every time). Something like Tiny Tower could never hold a candle to something like KoDP. Plus, I don't like dealing with wait times and in-game currencies anyways. I'll probably never fully jump aboard the freemium model (from a personal standpoint), but as long as the games don't partake in the gameloft model I'll be happy. I wouldn't even no what type of score to give a game like Tiny Tower, but I'm not bashing it. I just don't understand it. The other thing that will always bother me is IAP for multiplayer. Yes, I know this is my own personal opinion, but man that irks the hell out of me to no end. I guess at the end of the day, I'll always be overly critical, analytical (sometimes anal) gamer/person. Plus as much as I've tried to wean myself from console/PC games, my mindset is still very much there. I do, however, leave that midset (or at least try to) out of my impressions. My GOTY nominations will probably be the likes of Ravenmark, King of Dragon Pass, Starbase Orion, GPA, Stretched, IB2 (if they fix the problems), and/or Katana Jack. By next year, TA should definitely have categories to go along with the overall GOTY winner! Edit I do like the football manager games, but that's probably because of my heavy devotion to soccer! The Game Dev Story was pretty good. Then, I somehow got hooked on one of the Pet Salon games; not my finest hour. I think I got linked to it by another SNG, them it turned into achievement whoring, and WOW. It still only lasted about 2 weeks.
Actually in some other store outside US, the game of the year is Tiny Wings : France NewZl German Japan Tiny Towers is still in runner up, so, it's a matter of polling too ... perhaps? Can't wait to nominate mine!!
yeah, after all the new releases - I'm still stuck on Space Tripper as my favorite game of the year - and maybe even my favorite game on the iDevice. I'm obsessed with it. =oD
