Honestly I think the puzzle elements will be as prevalent as in Devil May Cry, which is to say not at all, merely used for pacing.
And so the prodigal son returns!! From your comment I suspect you have been privy to a prerelease beta???
I think the controls will be either good or bad depending on how they pace the action and mix it up with story, exploration and puzzles. Too much action (or tap shooting) at 1 time would be very repetitive and quite boring. Also, the backgrounds are obviously pre-rendered, so how would you control the shooting? Resident Evil (if I remember correctly) has a lock-on or auto-aim system which ain't that much better than this.
Oh I've been around No pre-release beta on this one, but looking at the video, the tap-to-kill makes me cringe a bit. Obviously I don't want to pre-judge. Good point about the pacing of the game so we'll see how that works.
Yeah I'm a little apprehensive when it comes to tap to shoot games. It really does look immpressive however I've learned (cough MGST cough) that immpressive "looking" graphics can be rendered using relatively simple techniques and so until I actually play it, I really can't be sure on what I think.
Time Crisis and MGST were the two of the more disappointing games which is where my apprehension comes from. Of course, after the Mass Effect Galaxy debacle, I'm no longer surprised.
I was thinking the exact same thing: MGST all over again? But then again, the gameplay looks somewhat exciting and intense.
As stated by another poster, depends on how they mix the adventure elements into the game. I mean...it was supposed to be an action/adventure, ala the RE games. Seems quite a bit like the RE games of old. I do wonder, however, how much, if at all, they have "dumbed down" the adventure elements to fit into the mobile gaming paradigm. While "in depth" long play style games don't generally "fit" the target platform or audience, there are some that can do well. Myst sold pretty good for a long play session kind of game, and while Myst is a known IP, let's not forget that stuff like Dream Chronicles has done pretty okay as well, and that's not exactly Myst when it comes to name recognition. It would not be good, IMHO, if they dumbed the concept down to nothing more than a tap shooter action game rather than the action/adventure game (tap shooting combat with environmental puzzles) that I thought the game would be. What I would find lamentable with this game, however, is if it gets mixed up with iDracula, and people start thinking that this game is a continuation of that one and/or should play exactly the same or is in the same genre (shooter). This, again, seems like RE lite (or, rather Alone in the Dark lite) than solely focused on "killin' 'em good!". And if that's the case, I think some who unwittingly think it iDracula 3D will give negative comments toward the game no matter how good of a game it is because they'll judge it based on what it isn't rather than what it is.
Just saw it over the front page. A solid looking 3D iDracula with story line. Dang I'm definitely getting this! A few weeks before it's launch!
@ spiffyone Thats my view exactly. I'm hoping for something like the original Resident Evil games: suspenseful, short bursts of action, scripted "scary" moments, good sound design, atmospheric + dramatic camera angles, engaging environmental puzzles, a decent story, weapons, health and ammo conservation, epic boss battles etc. not a simple tap shooter ala MGST! p.s. read the post by Grumps - oh the irony!
Game looks fantastic, even better than I thought it would be. Chillingo, if you're reading this, please ask the devs to add an alternate control scheme: either iDracula/ Minigore style style twin sticks or Assassin's Creed style joystick and buttons. Tapping the enemy to shoot is gonna get boring FAST. This is basically a fancy iZombie, and that game TANKED (and sucked).
The graphics and (especially) the blood look great, but the tap-to-shoot control scheme does not. Even if there's a nice adventure feel to the game, i'm assuming the main part of gameplay will be killing vampires, and tapping them to shoot them will get old fast. Even on the demo video you can see that, at times, the "virtual finger" gets in the way of the overall view of the game. Hopefully this game has some kind of alternate control scheme, because a good looking game with crappy controls doesn't cut it.
Well, I like "tap to shoot, tap to move" - coming from PC this just feels like a natural way of doing things, while D-Pads do not. OTOH, combat looks a bit excessive and repetitive in this video. Fewer, but more interesting enemies would have been preferrable - and easier on the frame-rate. Ditto a serious adventure element. Turning a lever doesn't feel all that exciting. The graphics are quite pretty. Well, I am still cautiously optimistic.
Looks like a glorified Zombie Invasion (anyone remembers that game?) Tap, tap, tap, tap, tap. That's all you do.
