how is it going? have you had any coverage on this? did you do a Press Release/etc? Something like this should definitely be getting some news..

if you spam it out to all the crazy modeling sites (cgsociety, polycount, etc) it will doubtless see a decent number of downloads as I cannot think of anything else like this out there, right now..

    EDIT: here's a tweet!

Thanks alot man. I'm thinking of having a prmac release done for me. Turnaround would be about 8 days though. Promo agencies I'm on the fence about still. I want to hire someone to do a youtube video for me. I don't have the time like I used to to do the promotion myself, so I'm gonna try to find a balance.

I just emailed it to some dudes I know at Dreamworks, Lucasarts, and Bioware. Maybe one of them will spam it around their office. Those nerdy guys would eat this up :)

Thanks for your help guys! I'm starting to realize that the price is a little bit too low. So I've decided to make $3.99 the launch price only, and the price will double to $7.99 when the launch sale is over.

If I had an iPad, I would definitely get this. :(

Are you taking feature suggestions yet? Because if so, binary ops for combining meshes would be top of my list. It also feels like 2 fingers could pan and zoom in free view, like a web view, so there would be less need to switch to the Pan tool to navigate around?

I could go on all day, but the mesh combining would be best. (save a quick preview render to photo library? :))

I had a very huge todo list for this app. So huge that I had to put a big divider in there that said release vs first update. Binary ops has just gone on there but its a pretty advanced operation. I got mesh smoothing via laplacian on there as an item as well. Verto studio nearly killed me since I also have a programming day job, so after my relaxing time off, I'll pick it back up where I left off and start implementing new ideas. So keep those suggestions coming! Also please feel free to review the app on the store (ratings), this would help a TON!

    thanks again for your support!!!

great news :) I would have been surprised if this went completely under the radar, although a feature is shooting pretty high for nearly anyone these days. Now get some sales and buy a round :)

    Congratulations!

    Hi Mlfarrell

I saw your app and reminded me of TrueSpace of eons ago.

Just signed up to say thank you for the nostalgia and your dedication to your idea. *It's great to see indie developers still going for it.

You should try and market it to the younger generation too like highschoolers where $8USD isn't so pricey as compared to their desktop counterparts. *I've sent a plug to my students who love the 'coolness' of it. Would really love it more if there were some hands on lessons for beginners like 'ArtStudio'.

Wish you the best of success and awesome updates.

    T

    Great app!

With some more work on key areas it has the potential to become a very important app. No doubt about it.

I would suggest dropping some lines at polycount.com and see what people thinks about it. There is a great community of 3d artists there and it would not be the first time users contribute to the growth of an application, like for example Xnormal or Ndo.

As a 3d modeler myself, i find this app very cool, but it lacks some key features that would be great. For example, editing edges i think is a must. Not being able to split an edge and have a proper quad face is something that pushes me back all the time when trying to model something in the app. Focus on quads and make the artist decide when he wants triangles by connecting vertex. This is very important i think.

Another feature i would love to see is a dynamic axis so editing in perspective can be restricted to whichever axis i am selecting. You know, like most of the 3d packages out there :)
Oh, and please, make the selection radius (the click) bigger so selecting a vertex does not take several tries :p Maybe a visual pointer would help.

Anyway, great app as i said, but if you really want people to take it seriously to do modeling, work on the tools for the artists.
Take a look at how Wings3D works and do the basics of modeling like it does. Have some beta-testers (im in if you want :) and evolve the app to the tools. You have the basics, now make them be amazing.

    Cheers

headed on over to polycount.com to post now. Thanks for the feedback! I never actually had truespace but I wanted it. I'm a pro blender user however. What I was going for was a slice of blender's core capability, but making it as easy to use as possible. I'm also very color-sensitive, so I pretty much wanted everything to be tinted blue, except the editing elements which are all green. I do agree that I need more modeling tools at some point as well.

Please also don't forget to rate/review!

A feature request: Can you register a file handler for OBJ files so that when I'm surfing the Internet in Safari, I can download files directly into Verto?

Look at Goodreader for an example of this done well with PDF and Office docs. Thanks!

i wonder if you couldn't make it compatible with iphones - as i understand it they have nearly identical hardware, and the interface looks pretty streamlined so i don't think screen realestate would be too much of a problem . . .

I think something that would really help you is some high quality demo videos / trailers on YouTube.

I found only one which seems to be fan made:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lT4pjD60mqg

Just looking at that it seems a very cool app, but if you do a professionally made/cut video then it would look even better.

Also, just a feature suggestion not sure if you already have it since I haven't bought it yet, but lasso selection for vertices would be cool.

I too would be very interested in an iPhone version, if I had an iPad I would buy this instantly. But for now if I want to make serious models I'll go to Maya, but when discussing things with other away from my comp it would be nice to make a quick model on my phone to try and represent what I was thinking about.

I've considered buying it just incase I get an iPad, but still not sure I ever will.

This is in the works. It'll take me some time, but it won't be nearly as bad as the initial effort.

Also, while my daily sales now are starting to go down, I owe some of you guys a huge thanks. The twitter and email marketing you did for me got me as high as #34 in productivity charts. I don't even think my upcoming press release will be able to do that again.

Secondly, I'm so sold on twitter as a marketing tool, that I went ahead and put a tweet button on my app's URL, vertostudio.com. Thanks again for your help!

I only got a chance to look at it briefly, but so far from what I have seen i really like it. The only suggestion I would have so far is during the tutorial section allow the user to advance to the next instruction on their own and not based on a users action. I think I miss a few helpful hits while just playing around before I realized I skipped over a few things.

But great work on the app.
