I'm not basing this fairly common opinion purely on their games output, but that is fairly accurate. Sports games evolve so damn slowly it's pathetic, you only need to buy a new one every 5 years once technology's advanced a significant amount for them to actually include something different and new enough to be worthwhile.
EA Sports pretty much has a monopoly on sports games. The only other company that comes close is 2K Sports, which doesn't match EA's quality in my opinion. I'm big into sports and I think EA Sports makes great games. Edit: I do see your point about not having to buy the newest year of the game Midian. I only buy a game for the sport I like once every about three years, since usually the only differences are player changes.
