but thats not what the thread was talking about... at least i dont think. sorry i hurt your feelings.
Actually it was sort of both. Mario isnt just an iconic character, its also a great platformer. iPhone's "Mario" should be both too
Everybody seems to be misunderstanding each other. The iPhone's mario could be many things. It could be what game symbolizes the iPhone. It could be the best platformer. It could be the platformer closest to Mario. Doodle Jump could symbolize the iPhone Hook Champ could be the best platformer, but it's more of a Sonic style Soosiz is still a great and lengthy platformer that closlely resembles Mario. Playing the first few levels can't convince you, though. It doesn't get fun till world 3 or so.
By the way great plateformer Grizzzly game has been updated to 1.1, Have fun with it ;-) Gameplay news : - levels completion counter added - help page added - arcade styled buttons added - level design's items minor corrections Core engine fixes : - optimization of the app's memory foot print to avoid some crashes at launch - sound engine rewritten to be a pure OpenAL code, ready for iPad - some minor bug fix ENJOY GRIZZZLY GREAT PLATFORMER GAME !! http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=285361683&mt=8
Soosiz is NOT that stunning. My fav is Chop Chop Ninja, way more fun. And regarding gameplay, Giana Sisters is THE Mario game on the idevices, with fantastic production, good controls, many levels and so on. Just get it.
Grizzzly became freemium ! Dont hesitate to try this game out : http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=357410945&mt=8
robo rush is a mario clone.. its pretty close too the real game.. meaning maps and game play is similar. its just robots!.. its fun.. they even improve the controls since the last time i played it.. just checked. laughs.. even tho all the games in that app could use a solid month worth of tweaks to the controls in my opinion. you can get it in that 26 games in 1 for .99 i hate the word freemium great for marketers.. but its rent to never own in my mind. chris.
Too be honest I don't think any of these games have anywhere near the level of Mario or Sonic. When you think of Nintendo, you think Mario, when you think of Sega you think Sonic. When I think iPhone or Apple really nothing comes to mind. These were all great games but I don't think any game on the iPhone platform will reach the iconic status of Mario or Sonic.
i am starting to think you are right. sway could be i guess.. its a good game too.. but i think sway maybecome more popular with the ipad. shrugs.. how i see the iphone.. its just ports, clones, copys, influenced of everything else.. chris.
sway really highlights the strongs of the iphone..but it's just a little too simple in the gameplay to be compared with monsters like mario and sonic..apart from this live long to sway..it's the one that (imho) more than rolando and soosiz stands out as a "true" iphone game
The answer is obvious! The iPhone's Mario is Doodle Jump. When you say a nintendo system, the game you have had to play for it was a Mario or Zelda game. Everyone who has had an idevice has played doodle jump.
Has anyone brought up the fact that the real Sonic The Hedgehog has already been ported to the iPhone / iPod touch? lol.
