We hope you enjoy it. Dark Nova is currently free because it has bugs. We're working on them furiously. Dark Nova is also different because it is open source. We're starting to get a good bunch of folks interested in contributing to the project which will accelerate its development. If anyone wants to help shape Dark Nova, join the Google Code project here: http://code.google.com/p/darknova-iphone Cheers, -Shon Dead Jim Studios Dark Nova Dev Team http://twitter.com/dead_jim
We're also big fans of SC1 and especially SC2! Many hundreds of hours were spent on Star Control. Long live the Zot Fot Piq!!!
Glad you're enjoying DN! We too loved Space Trader very much. A simple interface to a rich universe. Dark Nova 1.xxx is just the beginning. We'll be expanding on these lines. Stay tuned! I played EV Nova. not sure what was different in the original EV? I liked nova a lot though.... ambrosia did a good job with it.
Yup... Dark Nova aka Space Trader... ahhh... BUT... oy vey! The bugs! Spelling errors! Ships facing wrong way in combat (Vorlon Cruiser being one of them)! And the CRASHES! Unbelievable. I've taken to saving my games but the crashes really spoil the immersiveness of it all. Here's looking forward to a bug-free Dark Nova 1.5 (or whatever you eventually decide to call it!) EV Nova... well the entire EV series was great. The best was (IMHO) the second installment of the series EV Override because that in game you really felt as if you were part of something bigger, and what you did mattered, and affected events in the galaxy around you. In EV Nova, while your actions also changed the galaxy, there was more a sense of passive participation, go here... find out stuff, go there, etc. More an onlooker caught up by events outside your control. YMMV though.
I downloaded Dark Nova and I'll be giving it a shot tomorrow. I would be really excited if I heard Ambrosia was doing an EV for the iPhone/iPod Touch. I don't think these games need to be in 3D as I've found 2D leads to a quicker interface, great art, and great gameplay.
I have enjoyed Dark Nova for an hour or so, but it looks to me that currently there is no connection between "special conditions" and prices. Like, medicines don't cost more on worlds with plague epidemies and furs are dirt-cheap on worlds with cold spells. No crashes for me. I really wish for an active combat, though. Turn-based or RT, I don't care, but I can't see trading aspect alone holding my interest for long. And how about text adventure missions, like reputedly, in Star Rangers 2? I never tried this game out of the fear of StarForce, but it always seemed to me like a brilliant idea to expand gameplay without a graphics overhead. All, in all, Dark Nova is one of the best free games currently available though, no question.
Thanks for the bug report Isilel. We'll check in to the conditions issue. Thanks also for the compliment! We're very happy you're enjoying Dark Nova! Cheers, -DNSM http://twitter.com/dead_jim http://darknova.net
Yes.. I'm bumping my own thread please go easy on me ! I just wondered if anybody has any positive news on an Elite style space trader ? GoF2 was good but I'm looking for something hardcore and truly sandbox
