Hi for my IT project the goal was to film something over 45 seconds long and it had to have something to do with vampires. This is the finished project... This is the first time i've filmed something so please be kind =P http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krQmsi-SH8c
YOU GUYS SOUND LIKE HARRY POTTER! But I'm guessing that the Vampires were because of Twilight. So you only get 3 stars. I don't like Twilight. At all.
Yeh... They are based off twilight vampires a bit even though I hate twilight lol but they do come out when it's darker and when it's brighter they get weaker as shown in the vid ;D
With the filming, I think it was quite good, nothing spectacular but consistent throughout. However the acting/script could have done with some work, everyone seemed a bit...awkward. When she was caught by the vampires there could have been more emotion, her saying "oh bugger" or whatever ruined any tension. Also when you came across the body your friend could have displayed more emotion. It felt like you were running out of time so you just ended up getting killed to finish it off. Also why was your friend with glasses being a Zombie?
I skipped through most of it, It reminded me of, - 28 Days Later - Twilight Aside from that, the Red Head was cute.
Thanks for all your comments and yes this is the first thing iv done and nothign special only an it homework. the actors in it are only my friends and none have acting experience. It also didnt help that two cancelled on the day of filming so the script went out of the window and the camcorder quickly ran out of battery. I respect your comments as well as they will help me improve in the future and thank you all for watching it whether you like it or not. @Random Guy If you don't like it that's fine by me and i'll learn from it, but don't state as a fact it's terrible as others seem to like it and that is just you opinion, so yes i did take offence from that.
Okay, acting and script aside, the filming was very good for a first attempt at something long. The shots when the three characters go to investigate were my personal favourite, although they made it seem like they went pretty far away, too far to have heard anything really =P But they shots were interesting and ascetically pleasing. A few little things, you could probably lose "The next day" narration, as the scene goes from night to day so it's already clear that it's the next day. In some places it was really hard to hear what characters were saying, I'm guessing this is a limitation of the camera more than anything, but you should try to compensate for it by getting your actors to speak louder or by arranging the scene differently to boost the acoustics. The lighting was a strong point and a weak point of the short. In some places it worked well, such as the dark shot from inside the barn? to outside, and the actors walking from inside to out. Or the ending when the brick wall behind the ginger actresses seemed to be more vivid. But sometimes it was hard to see what was happening, particularly towards the end. It's hard to work with natural light if you're shooting over a single day, so it's just something to keep in mind for next time rather than something you could have fixed. Overall, good work! I just hope you don't get any marks deducted for the bad acting or the poor script.
thank you! yeah the acting was bad but liek i said none of them did drama and the poor script was because of people quitting coming on the same day! ;P but yeah the thing wasnt really about the acting or the script more about the scenery of the amazing warehouse we got to film in =D Also the bad lighting was my fault as in the editing part i made everything a lot darker to tie in more with the vampire esque feel to it. next time i wont go so far with it thanks again for the advise ;D
Good video. The camera work was excellent, but I agree that the acting and script needs more work. I think there should be a longer and more tense build up, with more grabbing (out of darkness) and it needs to be quick (i.e - 2-3 seconds). There should be more blood, make up would have been good (maybe blackened out faces with red blood dripping from mouth) and have some clips of the black face emerging from darkness. There also needs to be less running and chasing - that really doesn't fit in and ruins the effect - makes it look childish. I think you should have stayed in the barn area where it is dark, the bit with the vampires scratching against the conservatory was the worst bit IMO, there was too much light and you could see that the people where kids and didn't look at all like vampires. Get some black cloaks (maybe even some hockey masks), get some make up and stay in the barn. You could also use some more video effects such as greyscale video, static sections (maybe with some white noise), get rid of the music and have some silence, with some wind and creaking doors at first and then maybe a heartbeat, then screams interrupted by white noise as the victim is dragged away.
wow your awesome! i mean this one wasnt like meant to be a horror really but if i do another one im gonna base it on your post!
It's not a fact if its your opinion. I agree with all the people who liked the camera work but think the script/acting needed improvement
for the sound problem - invest in a decent field mic and record voice-overs for the faraway shots. Taking voice-overs from a scene recorded on the spot with the field mic can make this sound natural. Also don't forget to have spare charged batteries, tapes/memory sticks, and a charger on hand. Good work so far. What are you using to edit?
when you were all "drinking" i couldnt stop laughing....im sry but it was just funny watching you guys acting like that. Ive gotta agree with most people the acting stuff could use a little work but other than that good job. I dont know what video editing software you used, however I recommend using Final Cut Pro, i use it in one of my media classes in college and its a phenomenal program.
yeah well i dont have a mac so i use sony vegas one hell of a confusing software i mean really confusing but when you go on youtube look at tutorials and learn the basics and start to learn more advanced stuff, it becomes a really good piece of kit. But yeah i wouldn't recommend it for people who arent serious about making films in the future better getting power director or something like that
