Can some please explain to me? Why should I link my Twitter or Facebook to TA Comments? before it was linked to the user account. What was wrong with that? this is stupid!
I'm not arn, but I believe it would be to expand the accounts they have. If they just link to toucharcade accounts, it's a closed loop, they already know our toucharcade accounts. But, if they require twitter or facebook they gain a larger database. Just a theory
Hm strike what i said. I think it must be my browser settings; I'm looking at it from another computer now and it's quite neat.
Isn't the entire point of the powerful browser on a mobile platform is not needing a watered down version of every web site you read? Anyway, we switched to Disqus comments because the Wordpress comment system left much to be desired. It lets people post with Twitter or Facebook accounts, link all their comments together, flag inappropriate comments, and tons of other useful stuff. You can read more about it here- http://disqus.com/comments/
Disqus is an excellent platform. Engadget made the same switch a couple of months ago and sifting through comments has been a lot easier.
all this syndication makes me puke! Google wants to infiltrate my youtube and now I need my twitter account to make commets on site I already have and account. I won´t be on that game!
Ahem, there is an option to post as a guest. Or with a disqus, Facebook, OpenID, Yahoo account if you wish. How is this worse than earlier system? You have everything which was there earlier with a lot more 'options'. Feel like quoting your first post here
Errrr.... Hodapp fanboy? I dislike this infantilizing behaviour by all these "services". That's my personal data they are playing with. But the "normal user" today is forced to join nearly everything... everything's interconnected....
The front page comments were never linked to TA user accounts. Before, your only option was to type in a name and email address. The new system gives you more options. You can just post by typing your name in (same as before), or you can link it to your twitter, facebook or disqus account. Your anger is misplaced, and misinformed. arn
yes but the difference was when I was locked in my comments showed up, when not logged in, my comments never showed up. And BTW, I never asked for more options, I asked for less syndication. @IMNS And Yes I also noticed the guest option but did not use it because of the experience described above. But the options of disqus, Facebook, OpenID, Yahoo doesn´t the make situation any better, still. So I will be a comment guest from now on.
I have no idea what you are talking about here I made that post as a guest when I took the screenshot. And its still there. I can see it no matter if I'm logged in with Disqus or not http://toucharcade.com/2010/09/25/a-look-at-blaze-fire-puzzle-for-iphone-and-ipad/#comments
I'm not sure I understand what you are saying, but I still think you are mistaken. you could not log-in to comment before. There was no article comment and user account integration on the site. There never has been. You are remembering wrong. Great... because that's how you were commenting before too. arn
I kind of like having the comment system like that. I have a Disqus account, and having one means I'm already signed up to other blogs I may want to post on, so I don't have to go through all the crap of signing up to yet another site. Although it does limit my avatar choices. Right now Disqus is pulling down my Gravatar which I really just made for one site, but now it's showing up on all sites that suppot Disqus, so it looks a bit odd.
I don´t know why it was but when commenting without being logged in, my comment disappeared in "your comment awaits moderation" hell. Several times! So now that the guest comments works, for whatever reason, it´s fine with me.
I have a feeling... and feel free to call me on this.. that this is a WAY bigger deal to you than anyone else.
