Timers? Didn't see that in the vid. But if there are timers, I'm abandoning this game too. Although learning that it's freemium is already making me think twice about getting it
Or we could wait for release before snapping to judgement Maybe it will suck or maybe it will be a fresh take on xcom, who knows? Just based on the official video, animation looks rough to me (if your going to do xcom camera follows, animation needs to be squared away) and environments frankly look stale. We shall see soon.
I signed up for beta, but I guess I was late to the party. Regardless, I give my two cents: If, for some reason, this is freemium... I don't think the type of genre for this type of game would work under a freemium pay model. XCOM: Enemy Within just came out, as did Dragonfall, and I'm sure everyone would rather shell out $10 bucks to just play the full game. I think the type of players that tend to play these games are not casual players... hence, freemium is not the best strategy in this case. This game looks pretty cool. Personally, I'd rather just pay you upfront to play, and speaking for myself, I would. Maybe not $10 bucks for an untried and unreviewed game, but if I like what I see - $4 or $5, sure. Maybe make a few levels free and then purchase a full unlock.
Remember to make a faire freemium game, where people are paying for worthy things, like the full game. No credits in app purchase, or energy system
I want to thank Uzar and Game Insight for inviting me to test X-Mercs. So here are my impressions so far (I'm basically very early in the game): It's X-COM set in a parallel universe... meaning, same basic concept, but different alien world. Very high production values, looks and plays very, very well! Cool aliens and mercs... let's just say, it's premium. Seems to me that the energy system is based on manufacturing your research labs and speeding up the process of building labs, producing materials, getting wounded soldiers back into the war, etc... it's too early in the game to tell if the energy system is good or bad (seems okay if your not in a hurry, but you may want to speed up research, or speed up the recovery of a wounded soldier), since I am not aware of the pay model, but so far, it's a top-notch X-COM strategy game, that plays just like X-COM, in a different alien world. FYI: Luckily, they've already spent energy researching breast implants prior to play, cause every female you meet has perfect boobies, so you don't need to worry about building a research lab and spending energy on that. I'll post more impressions as I progress, maybe tomorrow.
You can sign up on the official game site. x-mercs.com There is a beta registration form, available for site registered users.
