Local is good, but it's refreshing to get the whole screen to yourself after so many years of only using 1/4 of it. If you've got a comfortable, good quality headset and all your friends are chatting via voice then it's really not that different. People are also able to join you in games more often when it doesn't require them leaving their house. I've had plenty of great times playing couch multiplayer, but they both have their pros and cons, so I don't miss it too much.
Yeah I understand, for sure. Personally I need more real-life connections, so it's a saddening state of affairs when things are online only haha
I was thinking of skipping this generation but with the odds tipping so heavily in Sony's direction I think this could be the smartest console purchase since my Snes. Looking at comments around the net I haven't seen so many gamers united before. Everyone is hating M$ and its kinda beautiful. All the devs are stacked up behind Sony as well as the fans. This may well go down as one of the best consoles ever
http://www.giantbomb.com/articles/microsoft-to-pull-complete-reversal-on-xbox-one-dr/1100-4673/ Microsoft might be reversing its DRM policies very soon.
I'm sure they're going to pretend this is a positive move for them, but it's really a victory for gamers. They didn't want to go this route and we did; since we control their income, we got our way. I'm glad they've retracted their stupid policies, but I still don't put much trust in them. They've shown me just what kind of money-hungry control freaks they really are and I'm positive that they'll always push against gamers as far as they can without crossing the line. This makes me more likely to pick up an Xbox One in a few years time, but I still have no regrets about picking the more powerful, cheaper console from the more gamer-friendly company as my first choice.
Wow Microsoft, didn't think you'd budge.. Unfortunately it's too late, you've already dug your grave with the gaming community. Bye bye
I'm a huge xbox fan, I've had two original xboxes and 4 xbox 360's. I have a decent sized 360 game library of 74 games, not including digital ones. and that said, I'll be buying a PS4 I simply will not have an Xbox One in the house with a kinect.. should they make a kinect free version, I will happily buy it!! I love the xbox exclusives, Fable, Halo etc.. but the kinect is a dealbreaker for me.
Are you not concerned about your iPad 2 having not one but 2 (!) cameras (albeit no IR sensor)? They would have included it in the console's casing if it had been able to work from there, but people don't put their consoles on top of their TVs. I don't see why everyone's so upset if you can just turn it off.
So now the big social media push with gaming is to get Nintendo to stop region locking. If you have twitter and want to help, tweet with the hashtags #EndRegionLocking #NintendEndRegionLocking #WiiUnoRegionLocking #3DSnoRegionLocking or a variation on the matter
Hm... This is one of those times where I feel like I thought this would be more satisfying to hear than it actually is. The truth is, now that they have backpedaled on their statements, they look even more immature and childish to me. They really demonstrated integrity with this ridiculous policy on DRM... but now that they are "listening to gamers", they are doubling-back on it... and now I just think they look incredibly stupid. And DRM or not, $500 does not bode well. It's still $100 more than PS4, and that's how people will view it from here until a price cut. No matter what bells and whistles the Xbox One has over PS4, they will be ignored with the blanket statement: "It's $100 more than the PS4." I think Microsoft could have gone about this much more sneakily. I think they should have kept the "24 hour check-in" under wraps permanently. Don't tell the consumer about it. Then, plan out a map of the Xbox Live Marketplace to get awesome game updates and freebies every day (free wallpaper, or something) for the first few months. Or something... Do something that makes the consumers WANT to connect once every 24 hours, if not even -more- frequently haha. Just don't tell them there is a restriction. Well, I am somewhat happy this is the case, so now I won't worry so much about getting all multiplatform games on the PS4 because of its lack of online check-in. That's good... and I won't dread playing an exclusive One game -because- of said check-in. Now that I think about it, that 24 hour check-in is seriously making the consumers look like inmates at a prison compound "You can't play anything until you sign in once every day! Shame on you! NO GAME FOR YOU " I honestly never thought they'd back down, though. This may end up hurting them even more in the long run... integrity is so important in today's world. Gah... they really should have stayed with their policies. Now, people will expect to be able to reverse any policies they don't agree with, and when Microsoft doesn't bend to their will, people will get all pissy. As for begging Nintendo for no more region-locking, I doubt that will happen. Maybe it will get them into good graces with fans, and sell more Wii Us, but ehhh... I don't think it's really a problem. The majority of games that are only in Japan or Europe that people -do- care about, get localized. The region-locking thing is absolutely a vocal minority thing, and Nintendo won't back down on that.
That said, the most famous case of a game not heading westward despite years of crying out from fans is a Nintendo IP
